Finding leading sectors in the market doesn’t need to be complicated.
1) Go to Finviz (free)
2) Click Groups → Industry
3) Check 1 week/1 month performance
4) Track the top sectors in a watchlist
From there, + or - the leading/weak names in those sectors.
Just keep it simple!

@ohiain @RealSimpleAriel Have you a specific tool to "scan" sectors ? Or you simply observe market and then analyze which sector is hot ?

Your life outside the markets directly affects how you trade the current markets.
We spend so much time discussing setups, risk, indicators, and strategy, but rarely talk about the condition of the person actually placing the trades.
And from my experience, that part matters just as much.
For me personally, I’m a runner.
Running is a huge part of my routine. If I’m not eating well, paying attention to nutrition, getting outside, and moving my body consistently, I can feel the difference almost immediately.
Not just physically, but mentally as well!
My patience drops, and my focus isn’t as sharp. Small things start to frustrate me more than they should. And when that mental capital starts slipping, it almost always shows up in my trading.
Because most trading mistakes aren’t technical mistakes...
They’re emotional ones.
Do you get what I'm saying?
Examples include: overtrading, forcing setups, and breaking rules you normally respect. Those things rarely happen because you suddenly forgot how your system works.
They happen because something in your mental environment is off.
I’ve also noticed how major life events can amplify that effect. If you’re going through something emotional (a breakup, family stress, personal struggles) whether you realize it or not, you’re operating with less mental clarity.
And when that happens, you have to ask yourself an honest question:
Is this really the best time to be risking capital?
For me personally, the answer is often no.
Now everyone is different. Some people can compartmentalize extremely well, while others can’t. But the fundamental principle still holds:
If you’re not structured outside the markets, it becomes incredibly difficult to stay structured inside them.
Trading requires discipline, patience, and emotional control. Those traits don’t magically appear when the market opens. They come from the habits and routines you build in your life (Read Atomic Habits).
Which is why I believe it’s important to have things outside of trading.
- Run
- Lift
- Read
- Explore new hobbies.
Spend time with people you care about, and go experience life a little.
Because life isn’t just about making money.
And ironically, the more balanced and structured your life becomes outside the markets, the better your decisions tend to be inside them.
To sum up my thoughts:
1) Don’t bring your outside problems into the market.
From firsthand experience, it rarely ends well.

Qullamaggie on Catching Sector Rotation
“How to catch sector rotation in bull markets. Just follow the setups. You don’t have to worry that much about it. Just follow the setups, follow your sell rules. You know you’re gonna catch those rotations. No need to overthink it. All you really have to do is focus on good setups. Everything else is gonna take care of itself.
You don’t need to know what’s going on in the world. You don’t need to know what Trump’s doing. You don’t need to know what China’s doing. You don’t need to know the planetary movements. You really don’t need to know much. What you need to have if you want to get rich in the trading, you need to have focus and you need to focus on the right things. Exactly. You need to know the earth is flat because of science.”
