@ItsDave_ADA I also hit technical limitations for my project bc of needing $ADA for fees, and not just stable coins. Babel fees never came to fruition. Smart Contracts were also significantly easier to write and deploy on Base. I made more progress in 2 months than I did over 18 on Cardano.

@ItsDave_ADA I spent 18 months building a video platform on Cardano before migrating to Base in March. I switched due to lack of developer support, lack of clear fiat to stable coin rails, and no interoperability (or very little). I tried for months to get support, and got nothing.

Instead of asking why a team built a custom layer 2 solution rather than using what was available on Cardano at the time, we should ask a more useful question that improves building on Cardano for others that are likely to experience the same. Why were the layer 2 solutions we had not sufficient for their requirements? That is the feedback we should be driving back into team maturing layer 2 solutions. If teams are forced to build around gaps in tooling, architecture, reliability, or developer experience, then those gaps need to be understood and improved. Hydra has progressed significantly, but in my own experience last year, it was still some distance from what I would consider production ready for more complex use cases. This is probably, practical feedback from people trying to build real systems and innovate in areas Cardano hasn't yet, I think this is actually really exciting. We should use that feedback to improve the infrastructure available to every project building on Cardano. For me, the decision to build a custom layer 2 solution is not, by itself, a reason to reject a proposal, especially when the existing options were still lacking the maturity required, but teams do not need to explain why they decided this approach.

@realdecimalist Long time $ADA investor and supporter, and once built on Cardano before migrating to base. Everything built atm only appeals to crypto degens; the average non-crypto user has no options that onboard them or get their foot in the door without something DeFi related.

the “ghost chain” criticism on cardano isn’t wrong… it’s just aimed at the wrong thing. it’s not that nobody’s building. there are builders are shipping actual innovative shit with real product market fit. the actual ghost chain reality is this: the vast majority of $ADA holders just stake their bags and do nothing else. no DeFi. definitely not touching new innovative products. the meager amount of people who do use cardano DeFi? They’re only interested in copy/pasta DEXes, lending/borrowing and perps from other chains. that’s it. which is exactly why only like 3 dApps can actually generate meaningful revenue from cardano users right now. teams (including @fluxpointstudio) have to lean on Web2 revenue because there simply isn’t enough on-chain activity yet. that or they close up shop (just 3 off the top of my head @jpgstoreNFT @Oraclecharli3 @TapTools… trust me there are several more I know of personally but they just haven’t publicly announced yet) so when people say “only support/invest in the dApps that are making revenue today”… that’s a stupid ass take. sorry not sorry. given the current state of cardano DeFi and the governance shit show backing INFRA ALL THE WAY! expecting every builder to be instantly profitable from cardano activity alone is how you kill innovation before it has a chance to grow the pie. we need to back teams actually shipping useful products that create real usage. even if they’re bootstrapping revenue… or we’re just gonna keep fighting over the same tiny crumbs forever. we are just cooking ourselves.

I appreciate that the Cardano Foundation and EMURGO+Yoroi abstained from the IO Research proposal. Governance will become more legitimate if Pentad members do not approve each other's proposals. Let's see whether the proposal can get approved without their direct support.

Many proposals, including those from IO, have budgeted for an ADA price of around $0.25. Will teams be able to deliver when the price is already 40% lower? If the bear market deepens, it will be a challenge to complete what was promised.
