African diplomacy is strongest when it avoids reducing the continent to a single representative voice. Kenya and South Africa don't need to sing the same notes to contribute to the same song. Whatever our domestic political divisions, it's great to see @WilliamsRuto at the #G7

G7 정상회의를 계기로 윌리엄 루토 케냐 대통령님과 처음 만났습니다. 1964년 수교 이후 다양한 분야에서 쌓아온 협력 관계를 토대로, 양국 관계의 도약을 모색한 뜻깊은 시간이었습니다. 케냐는 대한민국의 동아프리카 지역 중점 협력국입니다. 그 중요성에 걸맞게, 양국은 경제·투자, 핵심 광물, 인프라, 개발 협력, 과학·ICT 등 다방면에서 호혜적인 협력을 계속 확대해 나가기로 뜻을 모았습니다. 루토 대통령님께선 이미 두 차례나 방한한 적이 있을 만큼 한국과의 협력을 중시하고 계셨고, 전쟁의 폐허를 딛고 성장한 대한민국의 발전 경험에 대해 큰 관심을 보여주셨습니다. 그동안 쌓아온 신뢰와 유대감을 토대로 앞으로 더욱 교류와 협력을 늘려갈 수 있길 바랍니다. I met President @williamsruto of Kenya for the first time on the sidelines of the G7 Summit. Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1964, Korea and Kenya have built a strong partnership across a wide range of fields. Our meeting provided a valuable opportunity to explore ways to further advance bilateral relations. As one of Korea’s key partners in East Africa, Kenya plays an important role in our engagement with the region. We agreed to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation in areas including trade and investment, critical minerals, infrastructure, development cooperation, science, and ICT. Having visited Korea twice, President Ruto places great importance on cooperation with Korea and expressed keen interest in our journey from the devastation of war to economic growth and development. Building on the trust and friendship we have cultivated over the years, I look forward to further deepening exchanges and cooperation between our two countries.

President Ruto’s diplomacy is attracting attention abroad, but its greatest vulnerability lies at home. The administration has been far more effective at conducting foreign policy than explaining it. There is a gap between policy execution and public diplomacy.
