Here’s a fun fact: Tool’s performance of “Sober” at the Reading Festival on August 27, 1993, is captured in what is widely regarded as the only existing professional multi-camera TV broadcast (pro-shot) footage of the band from their early Undertow era.
This rare clip shows a very young Maynard James Keenan (in his signature eccentric style—often described as wearing a pink onesie or similar quirky outfit for that set) delivering the song with the raw, intense energy that helped put Tool on the map internationally. It’s become a fan-favorite archival gem, frequently shared and remastered online because almost no other high-quality live footage exists from Tool in 1993.
The setlist that day included “Sober” right in the middle, sandwiched between tracks like “Undertow” and “Opiate.”
