Are you teaching technology ethics this fall? Or are you a student taking a class on the topic? Then you might find the 10-episode podcast series "This is Technology Ethics" by @JohnDanaher and me helpful. Based on my book with the same name: technologyethicspod.wordpress.com #aiethics

The deeper I get into reading Tickle v. Giggle, the more it looks as if the lawyers for both sides (maybe not Tickle's senior counsel, but at least everyone before the case got that far) failed to grasp the issues. The judge is critical of everybody, and it looks like he's right.

@LiamMcIlvanney I read Devil's Day a few weeks back, which was ... unsettling. And The Loney was outstanding. So aye, this goes on the list.

Found myself rereading this today. What a gloriously propulsive, disturbing read…

What an incredibly uplifting story. 19 young Afghan women have just arrived in Edinburgh to complete their medical degrees. They'd lived in fear for their lives ever since the Taliban took power. All credit to the @LindaFoundation 👏👏👏🩺 theguardian.com/uk-news/articl…

As a final point, if you really think the SNP are doing a bad job of governing at Holyrood, the thing to do is to vote them out in 2026, not to give Ian Murray an increase in his pocket money.

@TalkScaredPod I think one of Musk's recent tweets, referring to others as NPCs is telling. Past a certain point of wealth, I think they become so out of touch that they can't even see others as people.

@ianthom94585013 @TomABacon I'm a UK law professor agreeing with a whole bunch of other UK law experts on here, and wasting our time arguing with a bunch of anonymous randoms intent on propogating a conspiracy fantasy. Ah, such times we live in...

@ColinGavaghan @TomABacon The denial of facts is why your opinion need changing. Other news sources publish the same story. Your delusons are real. It's a kink in humans coding and most definitely yours.

In case you're wondering about the weird hysteria gripping the British right at the moment: -->The Labour government has yet to pass a single piece of legislation, because Parliament is in recess -->The sentencing guidelines for rioters haven't been changed since the election

@Helen_Barnard I was brought up to open doors and give up my seat for women and I still do, despite the fact that many young people now consider this sexist. I guess what constitutes courtesy changes, like everything else.

How has an entire generation apparently grown up believing it's ok to listen to music/tik tok etc on trains with the volume up & no headphones? How???!

@ColinGavaghan @TomABacon Your comment proves my point. That's had been repeated caes of disorder over the months before this case. Went was the law not applied then? Why? What dont you understand? Just the riots you don't support?

@TomABacon Why are you not concerned that the law is being selectively applied to right wing riots and language? Previous riots and language has not seen such robust enforcement of the very same laws. That is a serious concern and pertinent questions as to why are not being answered.

Projections for the 2050s suggest it’s possible someone born in 1950s England, where the non-white population was less than 1%, will die in a country as part of a white minority. Has there been unforced demographic change like this anywhere in recorded history?
Toby Young@toadmeister

The claim that Britain has always been a nation of immigrants is profoundly wrong. On the contrary, until the 1950s, Britain's population had barely changed since 600 AD, says Andrew Collingwood. dailysceptic.org/2024/08/14/the…
