@MPFed I disagree. I served for 30 yrs. I knew I'd get this abuse. I knew I would be able to put up with it. The fact the public aren't aware this happens is irrelevant. It's for the courts to decide any punishment. Such is the life of a police officer. Don't join if thin skinned.

Footage of a Muslim officer being abused at a protest was widely shared this weekend. It happened a few weeks ago and we won’t be resharing the video, but yesterday we saw more of the same. Nobody should have to put up with abuse at work and that includes police officers. Arrests were made in all these incidents and we'll be pushing for charges in every case.

I am taking my complaint against the BBC over David Olusoga’s Empire to the next stage.
Its latest response is not merely inadequate. The BBC now says, in effect, that it need not clearly signal the controversial character of Olusoga’s interpretation, and that Britain’s imperial history is not contentious enough to require a properly balanced range of views.
That is not impartiality. It is the Corporation relaxing its own standards when they become inconvenient.

@InspGadgetBlogs 12 yr olds were used to transport guns around Moss Side in the early 90s. They were a new breed. Didn't have the sense of the old gangsters not to tangle with the police and draw attention to their dealing. They were happy to shoot. Now 30 yrs later Lammy says they're innocent.

Exactly James. And worth understanding why. The left abandoned the working class as its revolutionary vehicle when it became clear that working people were stubbornly patriotic and had no interest in dismantling the country they lived in. The replacement strategy was to dissolve the conditions that made national identity possible. No borders means no coherent demos. No coherent demos means no basis for the nation state. No nation state means the progressive internationalist project fills the vacuum. Mass immigration is not a humanitarian policy with unfortunate side effects. It is the mechanism. The border is the target because the nation is the target.
And that is precisely why traditional Labour voters are turning their backs on Starmer. They did not leave Labour. Labour left them. The party that once existed to protect working people from economic exploitation now pursues a policy that suppresses their wages, overwhelms their services and dismisses their concerns as bigotry. They noticed. The polling confirms it.

Police say today's 'Unite the Kingdom' rally passed 'largely without any signficant incident'. Probably worth noting that at the 2025 Notting Hill carnival, 528 people were arrested, four people were stabbed, and 55 police officers were assaulted.

@DavidLammy, you have threatened one march and ignored the other. Both are taking place today. That tells us everything about whose hatred and division concerns you and whose does not.
The Unite the Kingdom march is calling for secure borders, equal policing standards, an end to two tier justice and the protection of British culture and identity. These are the concerns of millions of ordinary British citizens, families, pensioners and workers who feel their country is being transformed without their consent. You have dismissed them as spreaders of hatred and division before they have taken a single step.
The Nakba Day march taking place simultaneously has not received a single word of concern from you. Nakba means catastrophe in Arabic. It commemorates the failure of five Arab armies to destroy Israel on the day of its founding. Its marchers will chant globalise the Intifada, by any means necessary, and from the river to the sea, a call for the elimination of the Jewish state. They will do so in the vicinity of one of London's largest synagogues. Not a word from you.
You removed the right to trial by jury for thousands of defendants, one of the oldest protections in the Christian legal tradition this country spent a thousand years building. And now you warn that if protest turns violent you will act swiftly with extra court capacity in place. A Justice Secretary who stripped jury trials from thousands of cases has conveniently ensured the courts are ready for today. The removal of juries and the readying of courts for a specific march on a specific day invites a question you should answer. Was the one prepared for the other?
Two marches. One threat. One silence. The British people can see exactly what that means.
