I’m 70 today. It’s not been the easiest decade but there’s been joy and laughter and even some hope. I can’t say I feel optimistic for humanity. Global warming, genocide, political fraud, racism and barbarism have embedded in a way that 20 years ago I didn’t foresee. But the children and grandchildren keep me focussed and love for the beauty of things and the thought of adventures to come. In November 2023 I travelled to Egypt to meet people and study the extraordinary archaeology. Here I am - in Egypt, looking over towards the Valley of the Kings. All civilisations, like people, all systems, however powerful, have their zenith and their end. Our role is to do the best we can in the time we’re born into. That’s all I’ve tried to do - and I won’t be stopping anytime soon.
