#AJ #PT582 I found NMES use on stroke pt to help with sublex. This review said it is more effective when used within 6 wks of injury with strength training. At the start, I think it is good but after they have the neuro control it may not be as beneficial. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…

#CC #PT582 I have found very little research that supports the effectiveness of US and I think like a lot of modalities you are taping more into a patient's psych. If the pt likes it and gets relief I do not see the hurt in doing it but it probably will not be my first choice.

@RyanOli22855873 #PT582 #RO I think early in rehab would be most beneficial and moving into resistance after they can active the target muscles!

@ColleenDrisSPT Great article Colleen! At what point in a patients rehab would you consider using NMES if the muscle is not activating?

#PT582 #RO PNF is a form of motor learning and I think NMES can aid that if the person cannot get the correct muscle activation through the motion. This article was interesting in using NMES with neuro rehab and is evidence NMES helps with relearning. aanem.org/mxonline/resou…

#PT582 #EB If the patient is comfortable being on a horse it's a good addition to treatment. This article is helpful in understanding what hipo. You cant bill directly for it but can bill for the activities you are doing like neuo reeducation on the horse. apta.org/apta-magazine/…

#RT #PT582 Important part of our job is encouraging healthy lifestyles and I plan on doing that through education. It will look different for each patient but I need to meet the patient where they are at and make modifications that are realistic for them!

#PT582 #TM Lab yesterday showed how many ways we can stabilize the core, after reading through physiopedia I think doing cross-body strengthening would be important to absorb extra forces. I would start iso/activation and move into a more complex dynamic/balance.

@BartschiJake That’s a great question! Thinking back I do not recall therapist using higher contextual much. Possibly with gait training they would have some obstacles which would be higher level for those patients! #pt582 #jb

@ColleenDrisSPT #PT582 #JB That is awesome, thank you for the example! You also worked at a clinic, can you remember when the physical therapists used higher contextual interference on an athlete or maybe a non-athlete during rehab?

#PT582 #JB Pts starting out w/ new tasks start w/ low interference, as you still need their buy-in & don't want to discourage. In advanced athletes, you could start sports-related high interference as they have the experience of the tasks and could help them develop their game.

@Kiernan20732093 I think doing anything that they find enjoyment in a helpful, while some may claim to not like any activities I think playing a game outside would be more enjoyable than doing band exercises in the gym. We need to be flexible & adapt so they can see the benefits! #pt582 #KJ

#PT582 #KJ I found this review that does a great job explaining the benefits of exercise for depression and it seems that any physical activity is helpful. For these pts I think we will have to start slow, reinsure them and be patient as they adapt. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…

@BartschiJake During bullpens my coach would constantly change the situation and batter so we had to adjust our pitch choice depending on the situation at hand! Doing that stimulated game like situations better than just pitching to pitch! #pt582 #jb

@ColleenDrisSPT #PT582 #JB I agree, we do not want to discourage patients by giving them to complex of a task. Advanced athletes would be a great example, can you think of an example of when your coaches used this?

@ds_DPT At the least we should educate on injury prevention and overuse but I think it would be beneficial to move away from early specializing! We should encourage kids to play multiple sports and just enjoy moving and competing! #582 #DS

@ColleenDrisSPT Do you think education and injury prevention injuries would be enough? Or should there be a total movement away from early specialization in general? #PT582 #DS

#PT582 #DS (2/2) It’s interesting to see that the articles I was able to find on this topic agreed that there is a problem, but none suggested how to combat it.

#PT582 #KD (2/2) While I do believe in it and used it in softball, I think for it to be effective you must be consistent in its use, actively take part, and believe in it. I think it is a good way to prime yourself and prepare for all aspects of the game.

#PT582 #KD (1/2) A common mental practice for athletes is visualization. A quick google search and you will see websites advertising the effects and how it will make you better.

#582 #DS (1/2) I think there is a lot of positives for shifting an adolescent's rehab away from their sport patterns because it is important to have motor learning for all movement patterns to have gross strength throughout the body.
