Let 2023 be the year we ALL move to ACT on what we know about reading science. The collective awakening about reading instruction continues. This editorial describes our awakening. Will you describe yours? edweek.org/teaching-learn… @edukings @JaredMyracle

@researchED_US was the best conference I’ve ever attended. Hands down. A must-do for all educators!
Natalie Wexler@natwexler
Why should teachers attend an event where they learn about cognitive science? It can make their jobs easier--& they didn't learn this stuff in ed school. And--like #researchFRED last weekend--it's fun. @ClassroomWonder @researchED_US More in my post: forbes.com/sites/nataliew…

There is a community of Eds focused on high-quality curriculum & instruction.
That community talks all the time about how to accelerate learning for kids. There are entire curricula designed for it.

@CurriculumMatrs Adopt HQIM such as @WitWisdomELA @Amplify @eureka_math and others. A true HQIM will have acceleration built in!
English

Q6: What resources would you suggest for learning more about HOW to Accelerate, Not Remediate?
#CurriculumMatters

English

@CurriculumMatrs Adaptive software that students can use at home. Communicate with parents how students should be engaging with this software in a way that will accelerate their learning.
English

Q5: In what ways should educators work with parents and families to communicate how we can support children’s academic and social well-being when we consider acceleration?
#CurriculumMatters

English

@CurriculumMatrs As a parent, I appreciate clarity on the diagnosed learning gaps so I can actively support at home. Provide specific information to parents.
English

@CurriculumMatrs A4: Teachers need to understand how to approach #acceleration with all students: ncld.org/reports-studie…
English

Q4: What supports do educators need to be successful in staying away from remediation this year and instead, prioritizing acceleration?
#CurriculumMatters

English

@CurriculumMatrs A3: Content-specific disciplines, such as science, need to approach #acceleration by considering those k/s that transcend across content areas. We are focused on the Science & Engineering Practices in all science courses ngss.nsta.org/practicesfull.…
English

Q3: Which content area concerns you the most from an acceleration standpoint?
Where are the instincts to water down instruction, rather than keep kids doing grade level work, strongest?

@mcglynn3 @kyairb @janiselane22 @CurriculumMatrs @kstoryscotti @BaltimoreLiter1 @PlaceTos @justincholbrook @SonjaSantelises @TNTP And they've learned a LOT this year about things we didn't necessarily plan on - tech literacy, etc.
English

@kyairb @janiselane22 @CurriculumMatrs Yes! This asset based mindset is something folks like you @kstoryscotti @BaltimoreLiter1 @PlaceTos @justincholbrook @SonjaSantelises + many others have modeled for us all. High expectations are a non-negotiable & one of the four key resources in #TheOpportunityMyth @TNTP

@CurriculumMatrs Mini-diagnostics followed by micro-interventions of prerequisite knowledge/skills in the context of grade-level content!
English

Q2:
What acceleration practices have you used in your classroom or seen used effectively?
#CurriculumMatters

English

@CurriculumMatrs A2: Loving this guide, which provides strategies for acceleration. Check it out! learningsciences.com/wp-content/upl…

@kyairb @CurriculumMatrs My hope is that the discussion about equity continues to be elevated in relation to HQIM.
English

@CurriculumMatrs A1: The biggest learning was one centered on equity. Accelerating does NOT mean leave behind. It means ensuring students have access to high quality curriculum AND teachers are in positions to teach with strategic interventions. #CurriculumMatters
English

@janiselane22 @CurriculumMatrs Yes! HQIM and educative curriculum make acceleration possible in all classrooms. Teachers learn how to accelerate when they use the curriculum.
English

@CurriculumMatrs Acceleration must be driven from grade level content! HQIMs create the floor for learning and teachers assess students to support as needed- prior to teaching, during and after! Start with what teachers know- the curriculum- build from that foundation! #curriculummatters
English

@CurriculumMatrs #acceleration is possible in all content areas!
English

We start in five minutes! Come hang out with us for a bit while we discuss accelerated instruction!
