On the heels of the @CanadianPM's India visit and the Canada–India Joint Talent & Innovation Strategy, our CEO, @JohnstonPari, is in India this week leading a CICan presidents delegation to explore how Canada’s colleges and institutes – renowned for industry-aligned training, R&D, and agile workforce models – can support bilateral economic growth.

Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan), led by High Commissioner Mr. Christopher Cooter, along with @CollegeCan President & CEO @JohnstonPari and heads of leading Canadian polytechnic and applied education institutions, met with Dr. Vineet Joshi, Secretary, Higher Education today. Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in skilling, entrepreneurship and industry linked workforce development. Prime Minister @MarkJCarney, Minister @AnitaAnandMP and Minister Shri Jayant Chaudhary joined @univcan to launch the Canada–India Joint Talent and Innovation Strategy. 🔗univcan.ca/news/new-canad… Within six months, a Joint Task Force will deliver recommendations to expand joint research and talent pathways in priority sectors, advancing collaboration in artificial intelligence, clean energy, health innovation and advanced manufacturing. Today’s announcement reaffirms that universities are central to Canada’s economic growth strategy.

"The government has placed a big bet on the nation-building ambition of the Projects of National Interest (PONIs). The new @Major Projects Office will accelerate permitting, regulatory approvals and financing for the PONIs, but the 'people strategy' to deliver them is not in the MPO mandate. The stark reality is that these big projects will not get off the ground without a skilled and ready workforce and an aligned talent pipeline," writes @CollegeCan President and CEO @JohnstonPari. "Delivering on the promise of the PONIs isn’t just a numbers game — it’s about addressing structural gaps in Canada’s talent plan. That’s where colleges and institutes come in.
