Worth a think about. Which non-existent past are you harking after? How can quarrels, woken through mixing decision making systems, that fracture the country along lines that don’t match anyone’s mental maps of the place be settled to any kind of satisfaction?

I’m obviously the younger generation as i’m only 18. Surely this is the biggest disconnect between the club and the fans in the clubs history. The future of Tranmere looks scary. #TRFC #SWA

Here’s the rail expansion we wanted. Here’s the rail expansion Labour are currently trying to cancel.

I quite like Andy Burnham. But blaming Margaret Thatcher for northern problems is mental. Esp. when it was she and Tories who ignited Manchester’s renaissance.

@omgsidewalks My grandma Joyce wrote me poems for my birthday or if I did well in sport or at school or if something special happened. Never met my wife’s Nonna Antonella.

We cannot increase long-term housing supply without diversifying how Britain builds homes. This is sometimes taken to mean we need a greater diversity of developers building to the speculative model. This will help at the margins, but it's not the solution... 🧵

@BenRamanauskas Bcs he’s looking at privatisation of natural monopolies, commodification of essentials and a growing inequality gap. The combination of the higher taxes and these set the straitjacket a managerialist Labour haven’t the imagination to see a way out of. He may be continuity 😱

Unless you've been sniffing glue, I don't know how you can look at the massive taxes, the regulatory burden, the high minimum wage, the price caps on various services, and the very generous State Pension and then claim that the UK has had 40 years of neoliberalism.

The only good thing I can see coming from an Andy Burnham premiership is that gilt yields go through the roof, he's forced to resign, the IMF steps in, and we finally get some of this 'neoliberalism' he keeps banging on about.

@BenRamanauskas It’s quite a skill to write with that lightness on a relatively technical subject, chapeau! “… the optimal level of a bad thing is not zero” Terry Pratchett adjacent thoughts.

Lucy Worsley just said, 'Hardly anybody in Britain remembers Thomas Paine' which just seems incredibly patronising.

I think I'd only agree 50% with Andy Burnham on the mechanism by which Margaret Thatcher's governments damaged the economy of North England both in the short term and the long term. But we'd definitely agree that she did. tomforth.co.uk/welcometodecli…

The “Vibecession” was key to the downfall of Bidenomics. This must read paper leverages scanner data to show: People were right to be worried about affordability. Real wages can fail to capture the actual living standards of the majority. We need better measures of affordability.
Evan Wasner@EvanWasner

Inflation is back. Real wages are down. But things may already be worse than they look. During the COVID inflation the data said real wages ROSE, providing a buffer against today’s price surges. But my NEW WORKING PAPER finds: those real wage gains were a statistical illusion🧵

Let’s confront Green Party “scandals” head-on One day Zack is “too rich” the next “too poor”. He spoke at the Red Cross, while Keir helped kill Gaza Red Cross aid workers. Zack worked for an MoJ agency, Keir’s MoJ illegally mass arrested anti-genocide activists The real scandal
