The losers are TNT (left with increasingly little of interest to Irish viewers) and Virgin, will be first year since c.1999 with no Uefa rights on TV3/Virgin
A curiosity - Sky's Irish subscribers will get more value for money, as the UK rights for CL have gone to Paramount
For the Champions League from 2027 to 2031, Irish viewers will see the top-pick Tuesday night game on Premier Sports, and the top-pick Wednesday night game on RTE.
All other CL games, along with Europa and Conference League games, will be on Sky
@MiguelDelaney When do UEFA start standing up for themselves and threaten a breakaway? All the money is based in Europe. Do they not realize their own power?
European countries believe that 16 places out of 48 for the World Cup is nowhere near enough
There is also disquiet over home advantage in these play-offs, that may see neutral venues raised in future

Barry Sanders’ ratings in Madden were such a joke it allowed him to do crazy shit like this that ruined the realism of the game - hang on, being told this is actual NFL game tape.
An odd match. Zero atmosphere. Ireland didn’t realise how poor NZ were and then NZ eventually woke up. Tackling and discipline fell off a cliff. Four defenders missing a scrum half from a scrum was a low light.
@SecondCaptains any chance of a discussion on the overuse of GAA+ for the football championship this year? Nearly all of the games behind a paywall on the biggest championship weekend of the year surely is self defeating. Would like to hear what the actual viewership numbers are.
The intensity of tonight's action all coming at once would be good for some kind of highlights programme showing the key moments. Perhaps called "Match of the Night" or something
Interesting that from Miguel Gutierrez. Says that ref had initially told Liverpool to take corner. Had they done, game would have gone on. But Luis Diaz stayed down, ref told to pause, eventually gets called to screen… penalty
@MiguelDelaney I totally agree Miguel feels like a non event until the knockouts. Trying my best to keep an open mind on the format in general but it's far too bloated. Do you think it would be better if only 16 teams got through and they got rid of that playoff round?
I know there's a broken record element with this but this is just a world even further away from how exacting the group stage felt in the mid-90s and into the early 2000s.
It just doesn't feel fully like proper competitive games, with a lot on the line.
@TMIrelandHelp hi, trying to get tickets for @SecondCaptains podcast through members presale link, but its not giving me the option to select tickets, can you please advise?
By a lot of the statistical models, a lot of tonight's winners in this new Champions League now a mere four points from the play-offs.
(Probably really need nine points rather than seven, since seven the minimum expectation, but it's still so low).
Ireland are more than likely going to be third seeds in the draw. But there is an extremely unlikely though theoretically possible chance that they flame out and finish bottom of their NL group but end up being promoted to second seeds in the WCQ draw
have seen the documents explaining the plans for the Uefa section of the World Cup qualifiers draw and if you thought these things were getting more complicated - you ain't seen nothing yet

After tonight's final, I had a back-and-forth with Salwa Eid Naser on the elephant in the room. Or, rather, the elephant that wasn't in the room she was meant to be in.

Here's how Ireland won a truly magnificent gold at the European Athletics Championships. A superb performance from Chris O'Donnell, Rhasidat Adeleke, Thomas Barr & Sharlene Mawdsley 🥇☘️☘️☘️ #RTEsport
