@Spoolofwhool @chhopsky @CrimCyph For me, I deduced it was probably a hardware issue by experiencing similar instability in a different OS. Then I tried removing PCIe cards and RAM. Eventually, I narrowed it down to either the CPU or the motherboard, so I guessed and bought a new CPU since it's easier to replace.

@chhopsky @CrimCyph @CombatCube Was there a way to diagnose this before swapping out the CPU or was that the endpoint of diagnosis where you're swapping out parts one by one until the error goes away?

thank you everyone who participated in the debugging session! the correct answer was "faulty CPU", as guessed by @CrimCyph and @CombatCube there were a lot of very intelligent lines of thinking and smart questions, however: sometimes parts just break in weird ways! very few people actually asked what CPU it was, and it was an AMD 5950X which if you know, was kinda famous for having weird issues. there's no real consistency to the way in which they create problems, so it's nearly impossible to get a line on whether the problem you have is caused by it. at the end of the troubleshooting, the CPU was swapped out for an older 3900X, and then the issue went away. we RMA'd the 5950X for a new cpu and it was fine after that. the important lesson here is that "failure" isn't a black and white case. anyone who's worked corporate IT knows that even something as simple as swapping network cables can often eliminate intermittently appearing issues. it doesn't matter if you can't find a logical reason for the behavior you're seeing - what you need to do is isolate it, and kill it. and remember: this cpu passed all prime95 torture tests and survived being flatlined during UE5 compilation 100% on all cores for 2.5 hours. it wasn't enough to simply heat it or work it hard. some specific thing in that specific case hit an error it couldn't handle. weird. oh well! it works fine now :)

@chhopsky @CrimCyph This was fun! Not gonna lie, it was a bit of a lucky guess for me, because I experienced the same issue earlier this year with my own build. For me, my computer would just be unresponsive after leaving it on all night, and sometimes it'd just crash with general use, like games.
