Miami-Dade’s mental health crisis demands action grounded in accountability, transparency, and results. Today, I pushed for Jackson Health to conduct an independent review of the proposed Mental Health Facility to ensure the staffing, operations, and long-term funding are truly capable of delivering the care our community deserves. Families in crisis cannot afford failure, and taxpayers deserve confidence that this project will work not just on day one, but for years to come. I look forward to Jackson Health’s written assessment and recommendations ahead of the June 16 Board meeting, when this item returns for consideration.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms and grandmas who make our world brighter every single day. Today, I especially celebrate my beautiful wife, Licette, whose love, strength, and heart inspire our family daily, and my mom, who taught me the meaning of unconditional love and sacrifice. I’m also so grateful for the wonderful mothers and grandmothers on my staff who balance service, leadership, and family with so much grace and dedication. And today, we also remember and honor the mothers and grandmothers watching over us from heaven, whose love and legacy continue to live in our hearts every day. Wishing all the mothers out there a day filled with love, appreciation, and joy.

Miami-Dade CountryFest returned to #OurCounty, offering thousands of attendees a weekend of rodeo action, food, and family fun! Hosted by Chairman @CommishArod, the event delivered rides, live entertainment and livestock shows, creating an exciting experience for all ages.

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck off Cuba’s coast today. While no major damage has been reported, the Cuban people are already facing widespread power outages and bravely standing up for their freedom. Our thoughts are with them, and we pray for their safety and resilience.

Reports that the Cuban regime may allow Cubans living abroad to invest in businesses on the island should be viewed with caution. The dictatorship has a long history of announcing limited economic changes while continuing to deny the Cuban people their fundamental rights and freedoms. True progress for Cuba will not come from controlled economic concessions designed to benefit the regime, but from real political and economic freedom for the Cuban people. Miami-Dade stands with the Cuban exile community and with those on the island who continue to fight for democracy, human rights, and genuine opportunity.

A meaningful moment in the chamber today hearing the farewell speech of Danny Perez as Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. Grateful for his leadership, his friendship, and his commitment to serving the people of Florida. Proud to have been there to celebrate his time in the Speaker’s chair and the impact he’s made. Wishing him continued success in whatever comes next.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Officer Justin Bozeman. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, and the entire Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department. Officer Bozeman served our community with dedication and honor for more than a decade. We are grateful for his service and stand with all who are mourning this tremendous loss. May he rest in peace.

I take fiscal responsibility seriously and will closely review the January 2026 DOGE report. Since becoming Chairman, I’ve implemented multiple efficiency-creating initiatives to evaluate the cost, performance, and effectiveness of Miami-Dade County services.  It’s my commitment to improve transparency, strengthen oversight, and ensure accountability for our tax dollars.

This morning, President Trump announced the capture of Nicolás Maduro, an important step toward accountability in our hemisphere. For years, the Venezuelan people have endured corruption and repression, forcing many to seek freedom and refuge, including here in Miami-Dade. I am deeply grateful to the brave men and women of our military for their swift, decisive action and steadfast commitment to defending freedom. My prayers are with the Venezuelan community as we stand in solidarity with them.

As families and friends come together to celebrate the season, a special time of tradition, reflection, and togetherness, I wish everyone a joyful and peaceful holiday. May these days be filled with warmth, gratitude, and meaningful moments with loved ones, and may the year ahead bring health, happiness, and continued unity for our community.

Congratulations to our very own Columbus High School alumnus on winning the Heisman Trophy. This extraordinary achievement reflects years of hard work, perseverance, and excellence, and stands as an inspiration to current students and our entire community. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor.

Thanksgiving reminds us to pause, reflect, and appreciate the blessings in our lives. I’m grateful for my family, the work I get to do, and the people in our community who inspire me every day. Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy Thanksgiving!

Yesterday, the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (#MDFR) Cadets (#MDFRCadets) joined Chairman @CommishArod District 10 Thanksgiving Benefit Basket event to support local seniors and Section 8 residents. The cadets worked alongside Farm Share to pack food bags, assemble benefit baskets, and help deliver them directly to residents’ doorways.

Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s deputy who lost his life while serving and protecting our community. We place our hope in God’s hands and pray that He grants comfort, strength, and peace to the deputy’s family, loved ones, and our entire law enforcement family. May his service and sacrifice never be forgotten.
