Fifth Avenue was as green as the eye could see for #StPatricksDay as @RikkiJKlieman and I watched the marching from in front of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. A wonderful day in NYC — one that brought back many great memories from years past at this iconic parade.

A great summary of the history of PERF and many of its accomplishments and activities. I have been privileged during my career to have met and engaged with the majority of police leaders who Chuck Wexler mentioned in the article. I’m looking forward to attending the 50th anniversary meeting in Los Angeles.  ➡️policeforum.org/trending14mar26

I remember the tragic line-of-duty murder of Officer Sean McDonald 32 years ago like it was yesterday — racing to the scene where he was shot. The worst news I could get as NYPD Commissioner. My prayers are forever with Sean’s family. We will #NeverForget.

Chuck Ramsey is a respected leader whose impact on American policing has been felt for decades. From his transformative leadership in Washington, D.C., to the meaningful progress he helped drive in Philadelphia, Chuck has consistently led with integrity, vision, and a deep commitment to public service. I’m proud to call him a friend and to have seen firsthand the difference he has made for officers, communities, and the profession as a whole. It’s also a privilege to serve alongside him on the Verizon First Responder Advisory Council.

I had the pleasure last week to attend the annual Boston Police retirees luncheon in Naples, Florida. Great to see a lot of old friends and colleagues, including several from my 1970 recruit class, along with former Boston Police Commissioner Kathy O’Toole. Kathy is married to retired officer Dan O’Toole, who is now in his 90s. A fun afternoon!

The badge, the shield, the tin — no matter what it is called — for the vast majority of cops it identifies them in a special way. I have the original or a duplicate of everyone that I have ever worn, including my first, Boston Police Patrolman Badge 1190 issued to me on October 7, 1970. (There were no women police officers on the Department until later in the decade. The badge nomenclature did not change until the 1980s when it was redesigned to read ‘Police Officer’). I never pinned the badge onto my uniform without first holding it in my hand and looking at it. It is an incredible symbol of the power and responsibility that it represents.

Without hesitation. Without regard for their personal safety. Without expectation of recognition. That is the courage shown every day by the men and women of the NYPD — running toward danger when others are running away, standing the line for the people of New York City. It’s why #CopsCountPoliceMatter.
Jessica S. Tisch@NYPDPC

I always speak about the police running towards danger when everyone else runs away — that happened today. Officers ran towards a man carrying an ignited suspicious device. They put the safety of others above their own. Today, as always, I thank them for their noble service.

The role of NYPD Chief Chaplain has long been an important part of supporting the men and women of the New York City Police Department — providing spiritual guidance, counsel, and comfort in moments of both triumph and tragedy. Cardinal Dolan’s support of New York’s Finest has always been unwavering, and alongside Reverend Bernard, they now carry forward the remarkable legacy of Rabbi Dr. Alvin Kass. I wish them every success in this important new responsibility serving those who protect our city. 🙏🚔
Jessica S. Tisch@NYPDPC

Today was a historic day for the NYPD and for all of New York City as we swore in His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan and Reverend A.R. Bernard as the Co-Chief Chaplains of the New York City Police Department.   For decades, these two righteous men have shaped the moral and religious landscape of this city. Now, it is our great honor that they will serve as the spiritual guides for the men and women of the NYPD, serving alongside our officers and making sure the weight of this work is never theirs to carry alone. Our Chief Chaplains are entrusted with reminding this department who we are at our best and calling us back to that standard when we fall short.

The loss of six American service members during the ongoing war with Iran is a heartbreaking reminder of the extraordinary sacrifices made by the men and women of our armed forces. These brave patriots answered their nation’s call and gave their lives in defense of our country and the security of the free world. My thoughts and prayers are with their families, loved ones, and fellow service members during this time of profound grief. As a Americans, we must never forget the courage, dedication, and selflessness that define those who wear our nation’s uniform. apnews.com/article/us-sol…

My thoughts on the importance of NYPD’s Strategic Response Group (SRG).

My thoughts in the @WSJ on the importance of NYPD’s SRG. Every day and night, SRG is out there, swarming to a Queens neighborhood to search for a missing child, patrolling the Bronx to reduce shootings, covering a major event in Manhattan so precinct units can keep answering calls for help. Extensively trained in crowd management, de-escalation and restraint, SRG is the right choice to police protests around the city. wsj.com/opinion/mamdan…

An interesting take on the snowball fight between City Hall, One Police Plaza, and the police unions. Sticks and stones AND snowballs can hurt you. nymag.com/intelligencer/…

Kudos for Commissioner Jessie Tisch. The first obligation of a leader is to stand up for and advocate for those you lead when they are in the right. Jessie is clearly a leader for the men and women of the NYPD. nypost.com/2026/02/27/us-…

Congratulations to Alden Foster on his well-deserved promotion to NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Community Affairs. I’ve had the privilege of knowing Alden since he was a kid, after being introduced to him by his mother, who served as one of my administrative assistants. From an early age, he stood out for his character, work ethic, and commitment to service. In 2013, he joined my transition team upon my appointment as Police Commissioner — and even then, it was clear he was destined for leadership. Today, he continues to pay it forward, mentoring the next generation and strengthening the bond between the NYPD and the communities it serves.
