Someone is building a web browser from scratch. ❌ Not forking Chromium. ❌ Not using WebKit. ❌ Not borrowing from Gecko. From scratch. Here's why that's almost insane to attempt. Every browser you use today - Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Arc, Samsung Internet, runs on Chromium. Safari runs on WebKit, which is where Chromium came from. Firefox is the only independent engine left, and its market share has been declining for a decade. The browser engine is the most complex piece of software most people have never thought about. It parses HTML, runs JavaScript, implements CSS, handles cryptography, decodes images, plays video, manages memory - all at once, for every tab, while maintaining the security boundary between your machine and the internet. Building one from zero has not been done successfully in over a decade. Ladybird is doing it anyway. 1,200+ contributors.
