No, the ICE agent isn't "kneeling on his neck". Yes, yes, ICE is the modern gestapo, a bunch of thugs operating without accountability. What I'm arguing is that you cannot "see" what's happening here. You think you clearly see the ICE agent kneeling on his neck like with George Floyd, but you don't. What you see here is the approved, trained technique of kneeling OVER the neck. The difference is that the weight is still mostly on the other leg, and on the heels. The knee is extended over the neck to prevent the target from being able to lift their head, but the weight is not on the neck, it's on the heels and other leg. You can watch the agent leading up to this point, where the ICE agent is carefully placing his foot in the right position, so that the weight stays on his back heels and other leg, then extends his knee over the target's neck. This technique is extensively trained for and approved, and is included in most training manuals. That's why you know Chauvin's claim of using his training is false. His weight was on Floyds neck, not on his other leg or heels. He was definitely NOT trained to do this. The two procedures are different for exact the reasons shown, that one can injure the person, and the other simply immobilizes them without injury. The point of this tweet isn't to defend or attack Chuavin or ICE, but to point out that you and I can see the same videos but see completely different things, and that some education is important.

BREAKING: ICE just broke Minnesota law detaining an American Citizen and kneeing on his neck, which was outlawed after the George Floyd murder. Trump wants this to keep escalating so that he can continue to consolidate more and more power within the federal government. The more power he has the more he can screw up the 2026 election.

@robertgraham Ummm… directionally you have a point, but in real life with data, the post is silly. Of course we could beat Iran on the battlefield if we really wanted to. The U.S. has 3x more soldiers and a 25x larger budget. We could easily turn their entire country into a glass wasteland.

No, we couldn't. Hegseth is busy making a macho army that can do lots of pushups. They'll get wiped out by waves of drones operated by soldiers who can't do pushups. They send waves of drones that cost a few thousand dollars that we intercept for a million dollars each, bankrupting our military. We need fewer macho men in charge of the military and better bean counters involved.
Max Badrak@maxbadrak

@Noahpinion Do you think we can’t win a ground war against Iran? Or that we could, but the cost is untenable politically?

Fact-checking fact-checkers. There is no evidence this phone is the "EVVL 7 Pro 5G". People just asked the AI, stuck it on the community notes, and everyone believes it because they hate Trump. It's almost certainly something equally cheap and bad, but look at the damn screenshots -- it's not the same phone. The EVVL7 Pro has 4 cameras, the Trump T-1 has 3.

This is well known that you can buy and sell water rights separate from property. @grok explain However, that's not the issue here. when O'Leary says 40,000 acres, he's not really saying he owns all that land. In some cases, he's just controlling the water rights for some of that land.

Utah is not building a 40,000 acre data center. They are using 40,000 acres of water rights for the power generators that will power a data center. Pretty much all outrage you see about data centers is deliberate misrepresentation designed to fuel outrage.
Rushi@rushicrypto

The largest data center in the world is in Hohhot, China, and is 230 acres. Utah just approved the building of a 40,000 acre data center. That’s 62.5 square miles. WTF are they ACTUALLY doing on that land?!

@MarhinDeMosr @oath1789 I am. I know the benefits and limitations of such systems, and why they aren't used much in the Ukraine-Russian field even though the technology is pretty straightforward and simple.

@sslight9 @jaynordlinger Conservatives abandoned their principles to listen to Trump. Conservatives used to be the party of Honor and Patriotism, and would never side with a foreign adversary against a political opponent.

I don't think a U.S. president should side with a Communist dictator and denigrate a former president. There was a time when most Republicans and conservatives would have agreed with this. I remember.

@Kuppal00p Tech makes workers more and more productive so they have to work less. It's like saying factories enslaved us because we could produce goods so much more cheaply than one offs by artisans, like shoes.

@robertgraham Fair point, one could argue those items do not provide a net benefit to humanity. In my opinion all tech does is further enslaves us.

@robertgraham @HistoryBoomer That may be so but political issues rarely have a gradient. Many are binary. The death penalty doesn't have a median solution for example. And for many of the people abortion has no middle ground on either side

There is not such thing as provably secure software. But a lot of cybersecurity experts believe it exists, and will criticize everyone for not having the moral courage to achieve it. It's like bigfoot and space aliens: nobody has ever seen one, but many believe they exist.
Joe Weisenthal@TheStalwart

Cybersecurity is something I’ve literally never spent much time learning about. And probably I should change that. But I’m curious, is there such thing as provably secure software, or is security always relative to state of the art hacking technology?
