I never waved the old Syrian flag (the Ba’ath flag) because it symbolized fascism, and because it denied my very existence as a Kurd. But I did wave the flag below, and I even kissed it during demonstrations inside and outside Syria. I was naïve to think it would be different: a flag for a new Syria where people’s dignity and identities would be respected. Instead, it became, just like the previous one, a symbol of repression and of Kurdish denial. Therefore, I regret every time I waved it and defended it.

Nunca houve uma revolução "russa". Dê o nome que quiser. Revolução Bolchevique, Outubro Vermelho ou qualquer coisa. Mas não falsifique a história. Foi uma revolução anti-russa e cujas consequências nefastas se manifestam até hoje. E tudo de positivo que a URSS trouxe ao mundo foi devido ao fato de, durante a era Stalin, ter conseguido curar parcialmente alguns dos principais problemas da revolução. A SVO na Ucrânia é uma operação para reverter os erros (como o Estado da Ucrânia) dessa mesma revolução - que, aliás, só é comemorada no exterior. Poucos russos de fato lembram da data e menos russos ainda se prestam ao papel de visitar a múmia de Lenin. OBS: não sou a favor de apagar a data. Sou a favor de preservar toda e qualquer memória histórica, até para evitar repetir os erros do passado. Aliás, já tendo acontecido, a revolução foi há muito tempo assimilada pela rica história russa. Hoje quem mais preserva a memória soviética são justamente as regiões de identidade russa mais viva: a República de Belarus e os revolucionários do Donbass. E acho tudo isso correto, normal e condizente com a mentalidade russa. Mas, em referência a um episódio do passado, não dá para chamar de "russo" um evento que foi, do início ao fim, direcionado CONTRA o povo russo, a cultura a russa e a própria ideia de Rússia.
