Ukrainians don’t want to live on their knees. They are not going to sacrifice their right to have a military. They are not going to give up land to Russia that Russia doesn’t already control, because that’s condemning the people who live in those lands to a life of hell. So, it’s really predictable and sad that this gambit is going to fail.

I am disappointed with mainstream US media, including the New York Times. The headlines are all about Biden’s debate performance. Yes, he’s old. Yes, it would’ve been great to have had a more inspiring younger candidate. Yes, he had a bad night, certainly compared to his State of the Union address. But that is not the main story. The main story is that Trump is a very serious threat to US democracy.

"South Korea should do more for it's own Defense". But what most Koreans heard was " you're on your own, we're going to be busy with the Chinese ". Am I the only one?

Should the U.S. change its Taiwan policy? I argue strategic ambiguity is durable and successful bc: 1) it allows the sovereignty issue to be delayed indefinitely 2) it keeps Taiwan as a political question, not a military struggle Read more + reactions: (cc: @AsiaPolicy)

1 of many very serious consequences: First island chain basically crumbles. Containing the PLAN then becomes at least twice as difficult. Taiwan becomes an unsinkable PRC aircraft carrier. The PLA's advanced A2/AD weapons then get deployed on the island. PLAN ships then based in Taiwanese ports. Suddenly breathing down Japan's neck (and the Philippines for that matter). @ElbridgeColby
