The box controlled the junction onto the Canterbury-Folkestone Elham Valley line, the preserve of a rail-mounted long-range gun during WW2. Barbed wire, overgrown foliage & Network Rail contractor trespass warning replace neat railings of 1943. EVL never fully reopened post-war.
