@hearinladotcom @_lej44 @MattMasonCA I’m saying that making people wait 20 min late night on a metro platform is uncomfortable at best. Anemic frequencies=low ridership. A long, isolated wait is not a welcoming environment. Esp in the op’s context of going to and from nightlife w drinking

When the D line fully opens in ~2 yrs it will radically boost LA nightlife/connections between friends in the westside (near Westwood) and Ktown Today's 1hr bus ride | drive and find limited parking | 30-60$ rideshare -> 15-20 min cheap ride = a lot more hanging out!

@_lej44 @MattMasonCA Metro is planning 20 min evening headways for D line. Barely useable to begin with, but considering the safety aspect of up to 20 min loitering on the platform at night, thats automatically sketchy as hell. Once again metro is kneecapping a great project with bad operations

@MattMasonCA I suspect they will flood with security first few months similar to when regional connector stations opened. but yeah, metro at night needs serious regular patrols + fare enforcement too they should also do night programming (they’re doing daytime pop ups when it opens)

Diagonal ramps are awful for wheelchair/stroller/luggage users, reduce yield compliance by drivers, and require larger corner radii— so faster, dangerous turns. This is an absurd suggestion @CD5LosAngeles

In committee this week, @CD5LosAngeles suggested doing a single curb ramp per corner instead of two to save $$. Other than being undesirable bc it shoots the user directly into traffic, it's not clear if this is legal in CA. youtube.com/live/y0EGU-Uqy…

@la_dorkout Fun fact- this was originally proposed for the 1984 Olympics by a committee led by current renowned UCLA biochemistry professor David Eisenberg. 40y later and we are still rushing to build the equivalent LADOT safety projects on Ohio Ave and Westwood Blvd before 2028 Olympics

In 1989 there was buzz behind creating a "Bicycle Freeway" in Westwood that even Mayor Bradley endorsed. It proposed 17-foot-high elevated "veloways" crossing Wilshire & the 405 into Brentwood & Sawtelle. Cost: $7 million. LADOT said it would infringe on street/fwy improvements.

For too long, critical street safety projects have been delayed or shelved because of political considerations and backroom deals rather than the needs of New Yorkers. Those days are over. New Yorkers deserve to be safe no matter how they commute — whether they bike, walk, or drive. That's why my Administration is committing to restarting construction of parking-protected bike lanes on McGuinness Boulevard and completing its redesign.
