@bowtiedbrazil When I lived there when I was 23-24, I didn't get to keep any of my pension contributions (you don't get to keep until you are 25) and I had to pay a massive amount to Cigna for mandatory Health Insurance that I never used because I was 23-24 and healthy.

this doesn't include social contributions which are nearly ~6-7% on top this is nearly identical to low or zero state income tax state in US. in FL, a single person earning 127k USD (100kCHF) would have an effective income tax rate of ~14-15% + ~7% social contributions (FICA)
Dominique Paul@DominiqueCAPaul

Man, Swiss taxes are insane. I was playing with numbers, thinking how much to pay founding engineers and wondered about net income. CHF 100k (~127k USD) translates into just CHF 12k taxes. Not only that, but the government has a special website for citizens to calculate this.

32 - Arsenal have never lost in 32 home league games against Fulham (W25 D7), the most any side has faced another without defeat in English Football League history. Unbeaten.

@bowtiedbrazil Monetary policy was huge. The UK ran out of reserves to lend to allies so borrowed from the US to lend to allies. Russia defaulted, France/Italy debased their currency, German reparations were a disaster meanwhile the UK tried to return to pre war gold standard in 1925.

People should study what 1900-1930 did to the UK. UK was the undisputed world empire and during this point (yes, before WW1 which was a different disaster for UK), the populace decided they wanted to have superpower status without worldwide intervention. Have cake and eat it too. They quickly lost their empire. Obviously there are intelligent ways to do this and non-intelligent ways, but anyone selling you you can be a hegemon without controlling the world is lying to you. Thankfully all of our enemies understand this

@yeong_gimg5109 I got wrecked in 2022 when growth assets like PLTR, LMND, AMD took a 50-75% drop. If interest rates get cut then CRCL, COIN, BMNR etc could run hot but am more skeptical of that with inflation from $100 oil. All comes down to if this conflict will be like Ukraine or Venezuela!

@ConorAspell Looks like you moved in the opposite direction from me! Still, if I had the extra cash, $EOG is definitely an attractive long-term hold. Wishing you great returns!

The market keeps calling the Iran oil spike temporary. Maybe. But if this war lasts longer than expected, one U.S. shale name could keep getting stronger: $EOG Thread 🧵

My view: If oil stays higher for longer, $EOG is still interesting. Full disclosure: I bought around $134, but I cut it and went back to $CRCL after feeling FOMO on Circle’s move. Not financial advice. Your risk is your own.

@bowtiedbrazil Influence by Robert Cialdini talks about this, specifically a study where people in business attire would buy from sellers in business attire and casual attire would buy from casual attire. Other methods like buying from majority, experts e.g. "90% of dentists use Colgate".

@riversorare That's a nice collection! Carlos Vinicius and Andreas Pereira have been doing well in Brazil so has some All Star utility. 24/25 is the hardest one to complete on the platform. They only printed 1 Alex Borto and the owner sealed him.

Just completed another Premier League Launch Edition Collection on #Sorare … with the addition of Berndt Leno. Another ex Gooner. Could be handy - has some of the easiest fixtures of the season coming up … #Spurs and #WestHam. This one is one of the hardest Launch Collections to complete. There are only 18 copies of - another ex Gooner - Cedric Soares in his Fulham kit available. I noticed the guys just added “Launch Edition” to the “Special Edition” search categories - which is a nice touch. #Fulham #Arsenal #SoCollect

@andrewmlaird They were minted 24 hours ago and then ETH rose 10% so min bid is 10% higher than normal. The inverse has happened as well with the min bid being <€5 the last few weeks.

@levelsio Felt good in Japan to throw a McDonald's paper cup with a paper lid and paper straw into the "Combustible" bin knowing that it was just going to be burned. Need combustible bins and more combustible packaging in the West.

The oceans are full of plastic exactly BECAUSE you recycle The plastic you recyle is majority shipped to Asia and dumped into rivers and oceans there It makes you feel good separating garbage but you're just polluting the oceans more than if you'd just burn it as general waste
vittorio@IterIntellectus

yes, asian and african rivers produce 95% of ocean plastic but nobody asks where the plastic comes from. plastic recycling is a scam. always has been. the industry knew since 1974 it “cant be justified economically” they funded the recycling campaigns anyway because the alternative was banning plastic. only 5-6% of US plastic actually gets recycled and europe isnt better. the EU exports 1.1 million tonnes of plastic waste per year, 3 million kg leaving every single day. 31% goes to turkey, 16% to malaysia, 13% to indonesia, all labeled “recyclable” most plastics cant even be recycled to begin with (thousands of types, different chemical properties). and for the few that can, the output is lower quality and more toxic than virgin plastic. you literally degrade the material each cycle until its worthless. so what happens to the other 95%? western countries ship it to southeast asia and africa under the label “recycling exports” with the receiving countries promising to recycle it in their stead for a price, but those countries dont have facilities either. so they burn it or dump it in rivers. every 20 minutes, a 10-tonne truckload of plastic enters the ocean in indonesia alone. it may look like indonesians pollute more but that’s because we ship them our garbage and they have no infrastructure to handle it. china used to absorb it all. when they banned imports in 2018, the west just redirected to countries with weaker regulations. malaysia, vietnam, philippines. the map below shows the result. you sort your trash so you feel like youre helping, the plastic goes on a boat, gets burned in a village without emissions controls, poisons their air and water, flows into their rivers, enters the ocean, and in your food and water. you feel good about the plastic you recycled and never think about it again but you end up eating it anyway. then we ban straws and plastic bags and call it environmentalism

@profstonge Debt is close to that if you include compound interest. 38T @ 4.5% over 30 years is 140T. Debt is currently 38T at a weighted average of 3.5%, if they wanted to pay it all down over 30 years it would cost 105T.

From the newsletter: "National Debt Hits $38 Trillion" profstonge.com/p/national-deb… "$140 trillion by 2054 is a comical number. But CBO says it’s coming. "The easy fixes are cut spending or a balanced-budget amendment. Which won’t happen. "Meaning either we fix the money -- End the Fed with gold. Or it’s a series of default and inflation until the end."

Never understood why companies are so obsessed with legal minimum benefits, you don't offer the legal minimum salary. Also if they can't offer a salary increase in line with inflation, why not paid/unpaid leave. I wager most people would take more time vs cash.
🇵🇸@SocialistLew

I love when job vacancies claim they have a great benefits scheme when and list things like: •28 Days Holiday •Sick pay •Maternity leave •Pension scheme These aren't benefits. You've listed mandatory UK law!
