I think I said in 2024 that Israel/Palestine has largely been, in DW-NOMINATE terms, a second-dimensional issues, meaning that there's been minor dissent in both parties against Israel. But this is going to become first-dimensional: it will be a strictly party line issue a couple cycles from now. 2026 is the turning point in Democrats being the pro-Palestine party and Republicans being the pro-Israel party in actual federal governance.

Even as Democrats turned Virginia from a red state to a blue state, they never bothered to change the Supreme Court because that would be seen as a radical challenge to norms and institutions. And today that hesitancy came back to bite them, that's the lesson here

In a 4-3 ruling, the majority said“we have to throw out a statewide election with 3 million votes because the process of setting that election up didn’t consult voters the right way.”
They are wrong on the law but they are so much more egregiously wrong on the merits.

We're coming dangerously close to (if not already past) a decoupling of political consequences from elections and I don't think we'll like where we end up if ~30-40% of voters believe that there is little to no influence they wield with their vote.

Shout-out to William Doffermyre, Solicitor of the Department of the Interior, who is the person primarily responsible for pushing the National Links Trust out of its management of East Potomac Golf Course, and for scuttling a planned Tom Doak restoration in favor of an absolutely ridiculous Tom Fazio blow-up that will result in D.C. golf becoming less affordable and accessible.
Doffermyre is allegedly very interested in becoming a big muckety-muck in the golf world. Good luck with that, Bill!

NEWS: East Potomac Golf is expected to shut down on Sunday after the last tee time as the Trump administration officially takes it over. Renovations will start at a later date once compliance has been met. Tom Fazio expected to lead the renovation.
