@Conorsfeed

When confronted with imperious conceit, fighting the good fight is not only the right thing to do, it can be a hell of a lot of fun.

China is a bad global citizen. They export toxic building materials, dump cheap+subsidized good internationally to wreck domestic manufacturing, strip mine international waters of all fish, steal foreign IP, use slave labor, and more. Why should we work with them on anything?

The Florida Panthers have done a similar job (but with a better and slightly younger roster). Good management teams + a state with no income taxes and nice weather seems like a winning combo.

I get that their core is getting a bit old but this sort of roster/cap management is incredible. $15 mil to work with on top of all that? Meanwhile the Bruins have $16 mil with half the talent and 2x the needs.
Bruins Cap@BruinsCapSpace

The Tampa Bay Lightning have been eliminated and head into the offseason with about $15 million in cap space. Pretty much everyone is locked up. Darren Raddysh is a UFA who had a breakout season at 30 years old.

@GrayMatterXY Yeah, making the playoffs technically set them back on their rebuild. The team is nowhere close to being championship caliber, need so many pieces. Even worse, overachieving and making the playoffs probably keeps Neely/Sweeney jobs safe, and they're who we really need gone.

@Conorsfeed I have to admit, I didn't watch many of the games because I knew full well that the 1st round was as far as they were going to go. I even said before they locked in a playoff spot that I was hoping that they would not because they weren't going to get out of the 1st round anyway.

I liked what I saw out of Khusnutdinov in the playoffs. I know he had 0 points but he passed the eye test in my opinion. Well-rounded player, has good potential, hopefully the Bruins sign him to a longer term deal this year because he looked better than most of the other forwards
Ryan Johnston@Johnston985

Khusnutdinov says Boston has become home and the team is his family. Says he's going to work on learning more English this offseason. I will note his English has improved a lot since he arrived last season.

@GrayMatterXY I agree on McAvoy overpaid/overrated but at the same time we don't really have any better options. Geekie is solid but I'm a bit annoyed with how he missed 3 easy goals this playoffs. Could have at least extended the series to 7 (not that it matters, we weren't going any further)

@Conorsfeed That's a good list, but you should also keep Geekie. Why not free up a lot of capital and get better D men by getting rid of McAvoy? He's overpaid.

What a ride! Way ahead of schedule! Like what schedule? You need a 1C a 2C and a top pair D at the very least. This season was extremely detrimental to being an actual contender again, 15-16 with 2 extra wins. Stay in the middle, hold assets at deadline, rinse and repeat

Monopolies (and to an extent duopolies) are generally bad for consumers, but oligopolies with 5-6 big players controlling >90% of the market aren't necessarily a bad thing. Helps provide stability. Plus, air travel is a commodity. Consumers aren't locked in to a single airline.

One other rant about the Bruins... Why do people say, "They just need a 1C, scoring depth, and 2nd line D upgrades." So does basically everyone else in the league. How many available players fit that ask, and how many do the Bruins realistically have a shot at? Let's get real.

Look at that Elias Lindholm deal for example. Was 7x7.5m for a 29 year old center. 31 years old now, was invisible for most of the series against Buffalo. Signed thru the 2030 season with a NMC. You can't compete for a Cup with that contract on the books. Team needs a full reset.

Free agency is tough because all the good young players are RFAs and by the time they're available to be signed on the open market they're around 30 and command a high price tag. No easy way to sign top talent without greatly overpaying for guys approaching their twilight years.
Bruins Cap@BruinsCapSpace

The Bruins have been eliminated by a more talented Buffalo team and enter the Offseason with about $16 million in cap space. Quick Thoughts -Need to add another elite forward or defenseman to become a serious contender. -Elias Lindholm is a bottom 6 center. -Future looks good (Hagens, Letourneau, Zellers)

Real talk the Bruins were never expected to be good or make the playoffs so can’t be too mad, but now the team is stuck because outside of Pasta and Swayman, nobody else is going to be worth a lot in trades and they don’t have much for prospects. No top draft picks either…

This rationale behind this is hilarious when 48 of 52 seats are already Democrat. In 2024, Trump got 39% of Cali's vote vs Harris 59%. 4 out of 52 seats is just under 8%. Sure, people can split their ballot but the fact that there aren't at least 10 R seats (~20%) in CA is wild.
Zachary Donnini@ZacharyDonnini

If Republicans aggressively gerrymander the South and eliminate up to 10 Democratic seats under a narrowed VRA, Democrats could respond in blue states. For example, this 52-0 California map could become legal, flipping four seats from 🔴 to 🔵.

Something to think about with the red vs blue button debate is that every 3rd worlder is going to press the red button. Only first world (likely white) people from US/Europe that are left wing politically would press the blue button. For better or worse...
MrBeast@MrBeast

Everyone on earth takes a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press? BE HONEST.

It’s incredible how quickly the left will adopt the tactics of third world dictators the moment they don’t get their way. None of their rhetoric about norms and democracy is real.
BeshearStan@BeshearStan

If Democrats actually want to fight back after the VRA ruling, they should split DC into 8 wards and admit them as states. +16 Senators to codify voting rights reform into the Constitution. No more half-measures.
