I *try* not to give other pregnant women unsolicited advice because EVERYONE does that, but I do tell them “don’t let people scare you”. I am never so bombarded with birthing horror stories as I am when I’m pregnant and I’m sure that happens to plenty of other women too. It’s nice to see women share their births in a positive light and give some hope to other mothers!

So um, my first birth was a water birth at home and was completely pain free after transition. I didn’t even believe that pain free birth existed until I randomly experienced it. I have had subsequent births that were painful but nothing unmanageable, never even considered an epidural. Just throwing it out there that this horror, fear and gore culture around birth is literally propaganda trying to make women terrified to have kids.

@CatholicCharm I know two women who have told me that passing a kidney stone was worse than giving birth.

I can think of like 50 different things I pray to God I never experience because they sound absolutely horrific and labor isn’t one of them.

@cherokeeowl I knew at 14 that guns are dangerous contraptions by nature and that taking or even just endangering someone else’s life is inherently wrong. It’s not a complex concept. Anyone saying “he might not have known better” is being ridiculous and they know it.

He’s 14. Speeding in a car with friends, catching up to a woman, yelling and cursing. Trying to show off, he pulls out a gun and fires into her car. When police arrive, she’s dead. He’s sentenced to life. A life was taken—and another is effectively over before it began. Where does accountability meet age, judgment, and development? Can a 14-year-old truly understand the weight of a life sentence? Is 14 old enough for life in prison—or do we need a different way to balance justice, responsibility, and rehabilitation?
