Loud and clear 📢 "...it is indicative of an ‘invasion-centric ecosystem’ historically unmatched, defaunated and functionally downgraded with homogenised biodiversity" 🌿🦌🐅 Amazing work @wildelock et al.

Excellent report by @simrin_sirur on the impacts of alien plants on tiger ecosystems. Some strong and scientifically tested (more important) interventions are critical. Happy to contribute @wildelock @BioinvNet

At Kanha Tiger Reserve, 'Lantana camara' & 'Pogostemon benghalensis' are causing 'significant decline in richness of native plants', affecting herbivores and, potentially, top predators. @simrin_sirur reports for ThePrint bit.ly/3KlHFLn

When internationally renowned invasive (Lantana camara) and politically native (pogostemon benghalensis) invades a forest consequences are dire not only for one forest but likely for the whole country An amazing piece by @simrin_sirur in @ThePrintIndia Info by @ninad_mungi

Well said @simrin_sirur @ThePrintIndia Like, all that glitters is not gold. Not all greens are healthy forest Many invasive plants add to the green cover of our nation but a more pressing scenario to ponder is - whether majority of india is green or not @BioinvNet @ninad_mungi
Simrin Sirur@simrin_sirur

This might look like a healthy piece of forest to the untrained eye, but it masks a hidden threat that’s driven by development, globalization & climate change, leaving India – and its top predators – particularly vulnerable. 1/n pic by .@wildelock bit.ly/3KlHFLn

While the growth in tiger number is applauding, it is critical to address threats by invasive species to the tiger ecosystems. A timely piece by @Maroosha_M highlights these problems and necessity of restoring native ecosystems. #50YearsOfProjectTiger @byadavbjp @PMOIndia

Plantation of alien trees promote invasions of other invasive plants. A clear message to stop planting alien trees, and manage the existing ones. #biodiversity @moefcc

Out now - Invasive timber stands (Eucalyptus too) in the #SholaSkyIslands promote other secondary invasives in its understory. Led by @jobinvarughese covering a large landscape, with @ghee_dosa @ritochelsea co-sup ArundhatiDas. @InsideNatGeo support onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ec…

What we have been observing since last few years, is now backed with hard data. Multiple Invasions are causing much anticipated damage to our native ecosystems and we still hardly talk about about it. @vijaypTOI writes about our studies and experiences @ninad_mungi @ecoalok

As India is facing a larger conservation issue with lantana #invasivespecies, @wildelock and his colleagues @wii_india, found that lantana us bad, but it is worse when it co-occurs with other invasive plants. @BioinvNet @IPBES @ntca_india @mpforestdept #meltdown

Invasive species like lantana require innovative management methods. One of which is small furniture articles. Glad to see @byadavbjp @moefcc inaugurating a commendable effort near bandipur tiger reserve, Karnataka. @BioinvNet @ninad_mungi @wildelock

Novel approach to reduce the immediate threats of free ranging dogs on important birds. It is crucial that such dogs are treated as invasive in natural systems and removed from the system for safeguarding conservation dependent species

Fencing of livestock carcass dump site - An innovative approach by the villagers of Khetolai, Pokhran tehsil, Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan. Stray dogs were giving stiff competition to vultures here. Thanks to all the villagers of Khetolai, vultures will now have ample food.
