Thank you to all MPs and Peers who have worked to end live exports in Parliament for years. And to all the orgs, campaigners and public who have tirelessly worked to end this vile trade. GB is the first in Europe to ban live animal exports & we hope other countries will introduce their own bans

Ministers should secure an explicit animal welfare carve-out in trade negotiations. Imports must meet the same welfare standards required of UK producers. Practices deemed unacceptable on British farms should not be permitted through imports

Every year millions of lumpfish and wrasse species ('cleaner fish') are produced by the farmed salmon industry for their natural cleaning abilities, only to be discarded at the end of every salmon production cycle. They receive no standalone welfare protections. Protect cleaner fish

The Scottish Government accepts salmon mortality is too high, yet denies systemic failure. 12 million fish died prematurely on Scottish farms last year. These concerns were raised in 2018 & 2025- yet in 2026 little has changed. Fish deserve better

"Every year, millions of salmon die in underwater cages on Scottish lochs, in conditions so grim that the industry doesn't even want you to know the true death toll. Many are eaten alive by lice, infected with disease, or crammed into warming, overcrowded waters for their entire lives. Thanks to toothless regulators, the industry has gotten away with it - until now. [...] The Rural Affairs and Islands Committee has a duty to objectively examine the facts, and they are plain as day: on-farm deaths hit 12 million last year; there were over 1,200 lice breaches; 47 major non-compliances were identified by the environmental regulator; and workers raised alarm over more than 100 serious health and safety incidents. The industry plays victim, but it's the animals, the people, and the environment that pay the price. The people are taking back the power, and public awareness is only going to grow." - Abigail Penny, Executive Director, Animal Equality UK. Read more at the Fishing Daily: ae.onl/eoV5Ja

.@scotgov don't think there is persistent high mortality in farmed salmon. .@TimEagleHI👉"We do have a mortality that seems to be worse than other countries. Is that not evidence...we have a problem that needs to be addressed?" .@scotgov responds👇 👉ow.ly/Ti8c50YsNRg

MSP @1edmountain on high mortality rate of farmed salmon & translates it to other farm animals: “What is it -6.5 million sheep in Scotland,if 1.5 million were found dead on the hills of Scotland every year, would the Govt find that acceptable or would they take action against it?”

Ruth Jones MP powerfully sums up the Westminster Hall debate on the sale of fur and fur related products : “We know that public opinion is clear, the scientific evidence is clear, the economic case is clear, so let's stop the delay and get on with the action we need to ban fur and fur products in this country from being imported into this country and end our complicity in this barbaric trade”

The Defra Minister @angelaeagle responds: “I think we have had a consensus driven debate. The govt recognise the state of public opinion in this area. We do want to bring together a working group on fur as set out in the Govt's animal welfare strategy - part of this will be to seek involvement from both the industry and from those who support restrictions to see what we can do ahead of deciding of how we deal with this in the future”

In today’s debate on the import and sale of fur and fur related products , Shadow Defra Minister @_RobbieMoore asks @angelaeagle why the animal welfare strategy did not include a ban on fur imports as had previously been indicated that was something an incoming Labour govt would be willing to  explore: “I would also like to ask clarity from the Govt as to any potential timeframe associated with any additional consultation which is likely to be announced on this issue and what they will be going in addition to the animal welfare strategy that has been announced into exploring this issue further”

Mandatory labelling allows consumers to make informed choices and rewards higher welfare farmers. The mandatory labelling of eggs saw a boom in demand for cage free eggs. Introduce mandatory animal welfare labelling
