@CharyseAAuthor I think play is key. And stimulation, like spending time in nature or reading about new subjects. Have you read The Artist's Way? It's great and really got my juices flowing when I was in a pit.

Sometimes, I'm afraid that my mind works too technically to write fiction. Working on my doctorate, I've become so afraid I'll lose my creativity, I write as often as possible to keep that bone alive. How do you stay in a creative mindset?

@Contactwithcrea It's definitely up to you, but a lot of publishing (agents included) take time off over the holidays. If it were me, I'd wait until January. Plus, that way, you're not obsessively checking your inbox over the holidays too.

@Contactwithcrea I've seen this all before with Hive, Threads, and other media. I'm definitely not moving until I feel it's worth it.

Bluesky is what Twitter used to be, before algos and ads, and puts everyone on an even footing. Small accounts find engagement there without hard work or screaming into a void. I see why it's hard for big accs to make the move, but your small-accs audience is there waiting.

I've noticed more people are leaving Twitter. If you do that, then you're just giving in to hate. Change the channel and focus on something else, but never quit.

@jdclarknovelist Honestly I think characters and plot come equally to me - I have great difficulty separating them. Or maybe that means plot is foremost, because you can't have plot without characters... 🤔 Theme emerges in the first draft, and is then enhanced in editing.

Plot. Characters. Theme. The three cornerstones of a novel. All three should exist, and exist harmoniously, in one’s work. But as writers, we’re human; we play favorites.
