@ContraHeresy No. They did their best, but His church was lost. Once the authority was gone, confusion reigned and people started making crap up.
English

@ContraHeresy lol tell me you’ve never actually read the bible without telling me.
English

@nasamomdele What you assert without evidence I can just deny without evidence
English

@ContraHeresy Makes way more sense considering the content of the espitles of Paul
English

@ChemBearEsq @joeljenkins801 Remember, when mormons have corruption in their church they cry "fallible men" and move on, when the Orthodox Church has corruption, they cry "proof of apostasy". Total double standard.
English

@joeljenkins801 @ContraHeresy You're dodging. Onus is on Mormons to prove the Great Apostasy.
English

@IJustDoItForThe So you believe every single Christian chose to abandon Him? Even the thousands of martyrs?
English

@ContraHeresy Nope. The Church and the rest of the world abandoned Him.
English

Right, because humans are famously consistent, unified, and immune to error.
John Henry Newman, "There was a temporary suspense of the functions of the Ecclesia docens… the body of the episcopate was unfaithful to its commission.” St Basil, Vincent of Lerins, St Augustine, St Jerome -- all admitted as much, too. So many famous quotes.
Oh, and then 25-40% of the NT was written about warning of impending doctrinal drift and corruption (you know, shortly after Jesus died).
- Acts 20:29–30 “After my departing shall grievous wolves enter in… Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things…”
- Galatians 1:6–7 “I marvel that ye are so soon removed… unto another gospel.”
- 2 Thessalonians 2:3 “That day shall not come, except there come a falling away first…”
- 1 Timothy 4:1 “In the latter times some shall depart from the faith…”
- 2 Timothy 4:3–4 “They will not endure sound doctrine… and shall be turned unto fables.”
- 2 Peter 2:1 “There shall be false teachers among you… bringing in damnable heresies.”
- 1 John 2:18–19 “Even now are there many antichrists… They went out from us, but they were not of us.”
- Jude 1:4 “Certain men crept in unawares… turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness.”
- Revelation 2:14–15 “Thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam… the Nicolaitans.”
Revelation 3:15–16 “Because thou art lukewarm… I will spue thee out of my mouth.”

@IJustDoItForThe So Christ abandoned His body, His bride, the Church?
English

@ContraHeresy I don't blame the church. I blame the world. They literally killed the Apostles. The Church didn't stand a chance at not being taken advantage of by human greed and thirst for power.
English

@spiritteachmind many of the early Christians were martyred themselves retard
English

@ContraHeresy Have you ever read the Bible??? Nothing but rebukes from Paul for the “thousands of followers” who let their leaders get massacred.
Apostasy was swift.

@HATU_man @DissentOrDie1 @mholt6 there's no apostles because people got things wrong and people got things wrong because there's no apostles! totally not a circle!
English

@ContraHeresy @DissentOrDie1 @mholt6 Right—and that’s not the point. The issue isn’t just people getting things wrong, it’s what happens when the apostles—who held priesthood authority and had the authority to correct—are gone. Without that, there’s no mechanism to preserve or restore doctrine.
English

@planksandpieces @ContraHeresy Don’t worry, Joseph Smith fixed that one for Mormon apologetics

@ContraHeresy @ldsfilmguy If you didn't understand the LDS faith before you left, why pretend to understand it now. It might be a good opportunity to really learn about something you thought you knew.
English

@joeljenkins801 @ChemBearEsq I love how you just said "prophecies" without even mentioning one lol
English

@ChemBearEsq @ContraHeresy Well, ya factor in prophecies about a falling away (which, you know, are kind of a big deal) and do the math and take a look at the utter confusion amongst the thousands of sects and well it seems to me there's far more evidence of an apostasy then evidence there isn't.
English

@ContraHeresy Many things but one of the primary reasons the council was convened is the many Bishops could not agree on the doctrine of Christ.
English

@HATU_man @DissentOrDie1 @mholt6 "People getting doctrines wrong " does not a universal apostasy make
English

@DissentOrDie1 @mholt6 @ContraHeresy Christianity spread through preaching and conversion. But even then, people were getting doctrine wrong—that’s why the apostles wrote letters correcting them. Growth shows influence, not preserved authority.
English

@ContraHeresy @ldsfilmguy The fact that you don't understand this should give you pause for how much you don't understand what you said in your original post.
English

@CutWithout Took a few centuries for the priesthood authority to be removed?
English

@ContraHeresy The commentary directly addresses the scripture you referenced
