Nearly eight months pregnant. Walking through London. Former Miss England Laura Coleman says a phone thief on an electric bike came from behind, mounted the pavement and snatched her phone straight from her hand. The force sent her crashing flat onto her stomach. She rushed to hospital, terrified, just to check her baby still had a heartbeat. This comes as phone theft in London hits 61,331 cases in a year that’s 168 a day. This isn’t just petty crime anymore. Yet Sadiq Khan insists London is the safest city in the world.

Napoleon Bonaparte was obsessed with extensive personal hygiene, which was very unusual for the time period. He would daily shave, brush/pick his teeth, take long baths, change his cloths and covered himself in cologne that smelled like Rosemary and Citrus. At a time when frequent bathing was considered risky and many Europeans avoided it, Napoleon Bonaparte was famously fastidious. He shaved daily, scrubbed thoroughly, changed clothes often, and paid careful attention to his teeth. These habits that were far from typical in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He favored sharp herbal scents, especially rosemary and citrus, and applied cologne generously. Napoleon’s obsession wasn’t vanity alone. He believed discipline in personal habits reflected discipline in leadership. Order in appearance signaled order in command. In cramped military quarters and the formal world of imperial politics, presentation reinforced authority. He also had an acute sensitivity to smell and reportedly detested foul odors, which likely intensified his routines. Napoleon used extraordinary amounts of eau de cologne, sometimes dozens of bottles a month, and even drank small quantities diluted in water, convinced it had restorative, medicinal properties. © Reddit #archaeohistories
