@Reboticant The surgeon who reattached my thumb was like do you want more flexibility or strength when trying to figure out how long to leave all the pins in my hand, I said "I'll be honest with you I'm going to crash a bike again in the future" so we left them in for longer

@Bernstein I was once on an AirFrance flight and during terrible turbulence the flight attendant got on the intercom and remarked that fear is what makes us human.

there’s a brand of journalism where people interview folks at the ai labs and say “i’ve talked to the people making ai. little do the normies know … it’s gonna change their world forever 😏” — and i don’t exactly think they’re performing a public service. more often they’re flaunting access, uncritically buying corporate PR, and freaking people out without much justification.

I had the misfortune of having to sit through a talk given by this individual at a small gathering a few years ago where he made an ass out of himself with his hot takes on every trending twitter topic known to man.

Michael @Shellenberger is one of the rare public figures willing to go against the grain on the Epstein conspiracy and admit he was previously wrong. “My fear of God is greater than my fear of public opinion,” he tells @coldxman.

Climate research is contaminated by RCP 8.5 ... and a self-created layer of overstated impacts has polluted policy, media, banking stress tests, and public understanding for over a decade. This isn't science "self-correcting" but an externally forced reckoning.

The jury found Musk was well aware of the things he complained about 5 years ago—but waited to file suit over them until he'd built his own AI competitor. If you think this is the jury's way of saying that Elon Musk is and always was full of shit in this case, you have it right.

Anyone who wants to argue that climate policy is the only/main reason RCP8.5/SSP5-8.5 is no longer plausible: Please explain how climate policy is the difference between today's world and a world (SSP5-8.5) with all of: - GDP per capita growth rates immediately doubling everywhere and staying on the higher trajectory for the rest of the century, such that today's poorest, most climate-vulnerable places have average real incomes by 2100 comparable to today's entry-level Google employees, and there is almost no global income inequality (by historical standards) in 2100; - coal per capita 6x-ing this century compared to its ~100-year plateau, instead of continuing its recent decline; - so little concern for climate change that we immediately turn off *all* climate policy *globally* (as well as some technological improvements) and keep it off forever; and - climate change that makes large parts of the tropics unlivable outside for humans for 300+ days a year by 2100 (but we have to still maintain no climate policy and have mega-economic growth despite this deadly heat, to demand enough energy and coal to have sufficient emissions for the scenario). The scenario doesn't make any sense! We shouldn't have been relying on it as long as we did. And it doesn't help trust in the scientific community to deny or minimize that. (And for those on the other side: none of this changes the fact that climate change is real and an important problem; see, e.g., the deadly heat point above.)

Did Trump "know that Casablancas and others were sleeping with contestants? Why would a man in his 40s, whose main business was real-estate development, want to host a beauty contest for teenage girls?"
