@ividboy @KilogramHours Oh I love CC, I use it a ton in R1 and I think it serves as the perfect inbetween. My issue with floorhug is that you’re able to do it while you’re already taking an action. I went from being a 2-2er to a 4-2er overnight by just throwing out strongs and holding down.

Floorhugging as it stands currently is great at all levels of play. It's very easy to do (hold down), very intuitive with the DI system, and has clear counterplay (strongs and grabs) and weaknesses. A game with sick movement like Rivals needs floorhug to prevent cutscene combos.

@KilogramHours @ividboy Aside from you pulling up a Darai clip to combat something from my local ranno player, more moves≠higher skill expression. The comment about R1 also being only advantage state also reveals you have a critical misunderstanding of that game.

@Coraxus__ @ividboy I can also give you baller and frankly more impressive Rivals 2 combos. The skill expression in Rivals 2 is higher because there's more intention with more moves at your disposal. Rivals 1 is fun but it was limited in scope to only advantage state. x.com/notdarai/statu…

@KilogramHours @ividboy You can have an interesting Ranno with all those things without needing FH, we know this because it’s already been done!! I went into my local scene’s discord and snagged something from our local Ranno player, he’s plenty skill-expressive without making FAIR load-bearing.

@Coraxus__ @ividboy Yep. Ranno is balanced because he is super fucking fast but all of his moves serve a specific purpose and aren't spammable, making an interesting skill expression character. If you couldn't floorhug his stuff you would need to heavily nerf his movement and combo-game. Bad!

@KilogramHours @ividboy Yes, she should have weaknesses offsetting her strengths, but the issue is that FH just SEVERELY limits the options available to 2 moves. There are other ways to balance a character than “you have 2 moves”

@Coraxus__ @ividboy All strongs beat floorhug since like a year ago. Also the reason Maypul's anti-FH moveset is a bit more limited is because her movement and punish game is some of the best in the game offsetting that weakness.

@KilogramHours @ividboy Whenever I was actively playing the game, Maypul had 2 moves total that beat floorhug, forward air and grab. The only follow up forward air had that wasn’t beat by fh was grab. How did this increase the variety of moves I had?

@Coraxus__ @ividboy Floorhug ups the variety of moves and their applications. Because FH exists Ranno has to use Fair or Grab (OR ANY STRONG) which are moves that are not combo starters or are very spammable. That way Ranno has to adjust his gameplan and use the right tool for the context. Good!

@KilogramHours @ividboy The move was minus on hit. Because FH DOES exist ranno has to go for just fair or grab there, why would he use anything but those options. Wrastor got an incorrect read and we should encourage the ranno for not hitting the parrying opponent.

@Coraxus__ @ividboy But isn't Bair Ranno's most flexible move though? If FH didn't exist he would have no reason to use anything else. Wrastor made a read with parry, something that should be encouraged to go for, he was in a spot to be properly punished and the Ranno tried to use a bad bair.

@Coraxus__ @KilogramHours Why did the Ranno choose to punish a grounded opponent with a weak unspaced bair? He could have grabbed him, or fair spiked him. CC makes you think about move choice and the opponent's state beyond just making contact with some giant lagless hitbox.

@solfizz @fletchwill_ @im_torna AZ won’t have R2 weeklies after the next heatwave because none of the TOs enjoy the game. So it’s not just an inexperienced player issue.

@fletchwill_ @im_torna Where did you hear that 90% (or so) of players leave due to floorhugging? Isn't it more so due to veterans just wiping the floor with less experienced players? FH seems to be the scapegoat to be honest.
