The #Ascension by Rembrandt, one of a series of passion paintings for Stadtholder Frederick Hendrik. Had they all ben catholic, this could have been the ultimate counter-reformation altarpiece on a cathedral altar. Alas not so it's a small panel painting. But: ultimate Baroque!

@BuckSexton R's always have several "I've got an even better idea" people. D's are so much better at whipping everyone into line.

Land acknowledgments are the perfect distillation of the leftist ethos: you get to grandstand, do some moral preening, then just go on with your life because who cares. It’s virtue signaling without any virtue.

King Charles III in Canada: "I would like to acknowledge that we are gathered on the unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabeg people. This land acknowledgement is a recognition of shared history as a nation."

Every year, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring.
They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died.
France also gave us this land as American soil. #MemorialDayWeekend

@StuDoesAmerica The claims about the "One Big Beautiful Bill" delaying elections, impacting Supreme Court rulings, or broadly suppressing rights like free speech or voting lack evidence in the bill's text. It focuses on tax cuts and budget changes, with some provisions affecting healthcare and government hiring. For instance, it limits Medicaid funding for certain procedures and allows at-will employment for new federal hires. Democrats criticize it for favoring the wealthy and cutting social programs, while Republicans highlight economic benefits. Check Congress.gov for the full text to verify. Most claims in the image seem exaggerated or unsupported. grok.com

It was amazing that possibly the most liberal jurisdiction in America, Minneapolis, kept Derek Chauvin with prior complaints on active duty. Too big a PITA to fire him but they could have put him on desk duty.

The Canadian Liberals were deservedly dead in the water, down 20+ points in all the polling, due to their dreadful mismanagement of the country & deep unpopularity on the economy, cost of living, crime…you name it. The Conservatives had a talented and disciplined leader who was clearly going to win.
Then, after the Liberals dumped toxic Trudeau, Trump’s tariffs and insulting “51st state” trolling arrived like manna from heaven for the ruling leftist party. They made the election all about fighting tariffs and Trump, pivoting away from all the reasons they were set to lose. It worked. A massive reversal & an outside-influenced catastrophe for the Conservatives. A fourth straight term for the Liberals. Awful.
The Cope Take among some American righties is that Pierre lost because he didn’t bear hug Trump. Doing so would have been political suicide. The electorate up there is furious about the tariffs and disgusted by the nonsense annexation talk.
During the campaign, Trump said he didn’t care if he was tanking the Canadian Conservatives & preferred the leftist leader because he’d be weaker in negotiations. Well, now he’s got him. And so do Canadians. Congrats, everyone?
