Wow, this post took off. Some of the comments are wholly unhinged.
It's clear there's more cultural division than we may have known. But, let's be honest, the negative response to this is more about the political state called Islam than anything else and westerners fully reject it. I fully reject it. I will not give professional or personal courtesy to anyone who defends Islam and Sharia Law. This is non-negotiable. Whether my colleague does or doesn't embrace Islam isn't my business and I have no intention of finding out.
Look, I don't need to give business to someone who I fundamentally disagree with. I have plenty of other colleagues in which to send opportunities. If he wants to do the "religion" thing at work, that's his choice. I'm not obligated to, as one islamic's attempt to guilt me put it, 'feed his children'. I'm just not. It's truly that simple.
