Do you realize how much raw mineral resources a developed country like the USA needs to function effectively? Now imagine if they had to buy all of them at full market value, it would be extremely expensive. That creates incentives to source from unstable countries where resources are sold for dirt cheap because the economies are weak and they can’t fully utilize them yet. Plus their currency value is so low that it’s literally like getting it for free. Now do you think it is in their best interest to bring peace to these countries?

Sideways for attention, long way for results
This is exactly why the WB told developing countries not to industrialise for years and a few months ago just changed their minds and went whoopsie, maybe you should. Deindustrialization killed both human and technical capacity and created dependency that's almost inescapable.

If poorer nations became fully developed and stable, migration would drop and richer countries would face shortages of cheap labor and raw resources. It feels like there’s a deliberate effort to keep things that way

@xysist As Nowrjee said, "It's for the record." This way when chickens are coming home to roost, there is a point of reference.

Auditor General reveals serious issues with Kenya Forest Service land records and assets for the year 2025. She says that: — About 556 hectares of forest land have been illegally taken — Only 77 out of 265 forest blocks have title deeds — Buildings worth about Sh2.9 billion are recorded, but some assets are missing or not fully valued properly

The bigger question here 👇 (x.com/MeidasTouch/st…) is if the Americans are as strategically stupid as Merz is saying, why do Germany and the rest of the European leadership insist on tying their future to them? Where is Germany or Europe's independent strategy on Iran? Didn't Merz issue, together with Macron and Starmer, a joint statement at the beginning of the war condemning... Iran for the war (bundesregierung.de/breg-de/aktuel…)? Doesn't that make them even more strategically inept, when your own - public - diagnosis is that the ship is sinking, and your response is to stay aboard? 🤷‍♂️ This is just vassalage with editorial commentary, which is even more strategically stupid than whatever Trump is doing.

To put it simply, Kelly: The West sabotages countries that threaten the extraction. Singapore had nothing to extract. The West sabotages countries that inspire dangerous ideas about structural change. Singapore's model is not replicable at scale and Lee Kuan Yew was careful to never frame it as a universal template for the Global South. The West sabotages countries whose leaders build coalitions across the developing world that could collectively challenge the rules of the system. Lee Kuan Yew built no such coalition. He was famously contemptuous of Third World solidarity movements and non-aligned politics. Remove yourself as a threat on all three dimensions simultaneously and you get room to operate. The cost of that room is that you are not a threat on all three dimensions simultaneously. Singapore got its developmental state. It did not get, and did not try to get, a world in which other countries could also build one. That is the price Lee Kuan Yew paid for the West's tolerance. Whether it was worth it is a question Singapore never had to answer. The countries that tried to answer it differently paid a very different price.
Kelly Brooks@BbbrooksKelly

@nxt888 I don’t understand how the west allowed Lee Kuan Yew to do what he did. How did he get away with it without the usual sabotage for any country who defies the Breton Woods prescriptions?

Here is what debt does that guns cannot. Guns create martyrs. Debt creates administrators. A country occupied by foreign troops has a clear enemy, a clear grievance, a clear politics of resistance. A country administered through debt service obligations has a finance minister who explains, with genuine regret, why this year's budget cannot include what last year's promises said it would. The resistance has no target. The enemy is the interest rate. The interest rate has no face. It has a formula. And the formula was agreed to, signed, ratified, by your own government, which was elected, which "represents" you, which is therefore evidence that this arrangement is the outcome of your "democracy" and not of external imposition. The elegance of it should be studied. Not admired. Studied. So that it can be dismantled.

Interesting fact: The IMF has a whole floor in the Kenyan Finance Ministry headquarters (where the real budget is written). Guess who else has a whole floor? The Minister - whose main job is an errand boy between his Global finance masters and the Cabinet. "Come here boy.' Yes memsahib. "Tell the President you need to cut $200 million from Health and Education budgets for us to approve your $1.2 billion loan facility" But, but... this will hurt key sectors of our policy to the people. 'No cuts, no loan. Get running boy" Yes memsahib.

There’s a dangerous group of smart people who act dumb to game the system and exploit the ignorant and many of them end up in politics and that other thriving industry I won’t mention. IYKYK
