Astronomers in @CornellCAS are deploying a new instrument that grants them, for the first time, a better view of the universe’s earliest galaxies, which can’t be observed individually with traditional ground- or space-based telescopes. “Instead of trying to isolate every tiny galaxy, it measures the combined glow from enormous numbers of galaxies all at once,” said Selina F. Yang, doctoral student in the field of physics. She compared the approach to observing a city’s lights from a great distance: “It is less like counting individual streetlights and more like measuring the overall brightness of an entire city from space.” More: news.cornell.edu/stories/2026/0…

Looking to literature, history, archaeology and psychoanalysis, A&S scholars connect past events with subsequent impacts in the mind, in art, and in the historical record. They aim to bring about greater understanding, richer documentation, justice or even–where possible–closure.

A deportation, a battle, a sexual assault, a crash: Because a traumatic event is unbearable in its horror and intensity, it often exists as memories not immediately recognizable as truth. A&S scholars approach trauma from many academic disciplines. as.cornell.edu/news/reclaimin…

At 14, Jacques Bailly PhD ’97 was crowned 1980 Scripps National Spelling Bee champion. He's still in the business of orthography (noun: a part of language study that deals with letters and spelling) as the Bee’s head pronouncer. Featured in @WeCornellians as.cornell.edu/news/how-do-yo…

@CornellSoc @nytimes “It’s important to continue to study and monitor carefully what is the effect as you push the rate to higher levels than what we’ve seen in the past,” Young said. “We don’t know if there might be some nonlinear place where the straw that breaks the camel’s back kicks in.”
