🚨 Research shows one in five CEOs exhibits clinically significant psychopathic traits.
It’s a rate nearly identical to that found in prison populations.
Recent findings presented at the Australian Psychological Society’s annual congress indicate a startling trend in the corporate world: approximately 21% of senior professionals possess clinically significant psychopathic traits. This figure mirrors the prevalence of psychopathy within prison populations and stands in stark contrast to the estimated 1% to 4% found in the general public. These individuals, often dubbed "successful psychopaths," navigate their way into high-ranking positions by leveraging superficial charm and flamboyant personalities. However, these same traits—including a profound lack of empathy and a penchant for insincerity—can predispose leaders to unethical behaviors and long-term organizational failure.
Forensic psychologist Nathan Brooks, who led the study alongside researchers from Bond University and the University of San Diego, suggests that current recruitment strategies are partially to blame. Many firms focus exclusively on technical skills and professional history, inadvertently ignoring toxic personality features that can damage corporate culture. To combat the rise of psychopathy in the C-suite, the study advocates for more rigorous personality screening during the hiring process. By shifting the focus from mere competence to character, businesses can better protect themselves from the "short-term success" that psychopathic leaders often buy at the cost of the company's future integrity.

Research suggests that roughly one in five CEOs display clinically meaningful psychopathic traits, figures that closely resemble those observed within prison populations.
Findings presented at the Australian Psychological Society annual congress highlight a striking pattern in senior leadership: around 21% of high-level professionals exhibit these traits. This is far higher than the estimated 1%–4% seen in the general population.
Often described as “successful psychopaths,” such individuals can rise to top positions by relying on charm, confidence, and persuasive personalities. Yet those same characteristics, paired with low empathy and a tendency toward manipulation can increase the risk of unethical decision-making and long-term harm to organisations.
According to forensic psychologist Nathan Brooks, who led the research with colleagues from Bond University and the University of San Diego, hiring practices may play a role. Many companies prioritise experience and technical ability while overlooking problematic personality traits.
The study argues that introducing stronger personality assessments into recruitment could help organisations avoid leaders who achieve short-term gains at the expense of long-term stability and ethical standards.

Costa Rica has outlawed recreational hunting, solidifying its role as a worldwide leader in animal protection and a safe haven for the remarkable 5% of global biodiversity it hosts.
Home to an astonishing proportion of Earth's plant and animal species, Costa Rica stands as one of the planet's most vital biodiversity hotspots. Yet this extraordinary natural heritage faces ongoing threats from human activities—including unsustainable wildlife tourism, illegal wildlife trade, domestic animal neglect, and organized animal fighting.
As encounters between people and wildlife grow more frequent, the country's fragile ecosystems require proactive safeguards to protect their most vulnerable residents.
Costa Rica has responded with groundbreaking animal welfare laws that reflect a deep national commitment to conservation. Building on its landmark 2012 nationwide ban on sport and trophy hunting, the country introduced stringent anti-trafficking measures in 2017 to combat poaching and biodiversity loss. By imposing mandatory prison sentences for animal cruelty and creating a national registry of offenders, Costa Rica demonstrates that effective conservation demands strong legal enforcement alongside widespread societal resolve to safeguard all living beings within its borders.

An Iranian-born man had found it difficult to "adjust" to Australian women's "revealing garments" before violently sexually assaulting an Australian woman on Sydney's Anzac Bridge.
Amir Mohebbifar, 27, who had arrived at Christmas Island in 2013 and been granted a bridging visa, has been sentenced to at least six years in prison for the aggravated sexual assault.
He had told the court he had issues with the clothing of Australian women and in his home country western women were "portrayed as whores".
He is now back in the Australian community, free to terrorise more girls and women.
