@CorpasWriter Enjoyed it. Well written. Glad hes well and made peace with his career. First time i watched the 1975 fight i thought Duran may have lost and i wondered why id never read that it was so close. Performing as he did, twice, vs the peak Duran, Edwin made his mark in history.

Over lunch in the Bronx with Edwin Viruet, “The Puerto Rican Ali” reflects on the life that slipped away with the scorecards. mrbellersneighborhood.com/2026/05/almost

@earthwheel1990 Share your thoughts after you do. Its a quick read.
English

@CorpasWriter Ill read that later, thank you. Good fighter, Edwin Viruet, watched a lot of his fights over the years. He really troubled Duran, both times.
English

@bedouinpicks @RoldBoxing It’s pretty easy to follow.
In Joey Maxim’s era there were 8 titles in boxing.
Today there are 70 titles.
Comparing the title fights between the eras does nothing for anyone.
English

@CorpasWriter @RoldBoxing That made no sense whatsoever. The guy fought in that many legit title fights period. Grow up buddy

@daikokusan2026 @_BroadwayJoel @RoldBoxing Btw if boxing had so many belts back then, the first Japanese champion would’ve been a featherweight named Taiho in the 1920s. And for more fun, here’s a pic of me with Inoue 2 years ago at an awards ceremony. He was all class. I’m the one on the left.

English

@pomara_matt @RussComoJr @5XPAZ If I got off an hour earlier I would've joined you all even if a little late. Plus I have a message for Vinny from Rafael Williams lol.

@_BroadwayJoel @daikokusan2026 @RoldBoxing I'm leaving on the kid gloves since his bio says he has depression. He ain't understanding how much the game has changed since Joe Louis. If Joe fought in a 4-belt he would have won 4 at heavy & 4 at cruiser. Instead of 1x champ for 12 yrs he would be 8x champ for 17 w 50 def
English

@daikokusan2026 @CorpasWriter @RoldBoxing 8 of his title defenses were against people who weren’t from America. The fact that you don’t understand he was the lineal champion and didn’t just hold a belt. Shows me you’re a casual boxing fan who doesn’t understand wtf you’re talking about
English

@daikokusan2026 @_BroadwayJoel @RoldBoxing This is going way over your head. If Louis fought under todays system he would have about 50 defenses.
But thank you for your opinion. Peace.
English

@_BroadwayJoel @daikokusan2026 @RoldBoxing Exactly.
Comparing 2020 stats to 1920 stats is like saying my 2020 Toyota is faster than a 1920 horse.
English

@daikokusan2026 @CorpasWriter @RoldBoxing There’s 4 belts now. There was only one belt back then. That’s why it’s an unfair comparison. Has nothing to do with nationality
English

@CorpasWriter @RoldBoxing 歴史に「もし」を持ち出すのは、それこそ不公平だ
日本人が世界記録を更新するのがただ悔しいだけだろ

This is a very good read - My friend @CorpasWriter spent some time with Edwin Viruet - the man who “beat” Roberto Duran at the Nassau Coliseum

@CorpasWriter @sdgsahen Louis is the greatest heavyweight power combination puncher who ever lived. Still. And if not for the war might have had 30-40 defenses instead of 25
