My USPS stamp proposal for Barney Ross is under review. World champion. WWII Hero. His story deserves to be remembered in more than just boxing circles. I made a mock stamp of what it could look like. Check it.

@CorpasWriter Enjoyed it. Well written. Glad hes well and made peace with his career. First time i watched the 1975 fight i thought Duran may have lost and i wondered why id never read that it was so close. Performing as he did, twice, vs the peak Duran, Edwin made his mark in history.

@CorpasWriter Ill read that later, thank you. Good fighter, Edwin Viruet, watched a lot of his fights over the years. He really troubled Duran, both times.

@bedouinpicks @RoldBoxing It’s pretty easy to follow. In Joey Maxim’s era there were 8 titles in boxing. Today there are 70 titles. Comparing the title fights between the eras does nothing for anyone.

Naoya Inoue is now tied for the most title fight wins without or before a loss or draw with Joe Louis at 26 (excluding goofy WBA extra belts). One caveat: all of Louis’s wins were lineal. Inoue is 10-0 in lineal title fights.

@daikokusan2026 @_BroadwayJoel @RoldBoxing Btw if boxing had so many belts back then, the first Japanese champion would’ve been a featherweight named Taiho in the 1920s. And for more fun, here’s a pic of me with Inoue 2 years ago at an awards ceremony. He was all class. I’m the one on the left.

@_BroadwayJoel @daikokusan2026 @RoldBoxing I'm leaving on the kid gloves since his bio says he has depression. He ain't understanding how much the game has changed since Joe Louis. If Joe fought in a 4-belt he would have won 4 at heavy & 4 at cruiser. Instead of 1x champ for 12 yrs he would be 8x champ for 17 w 50 def

@daikokusan2026 @CorpasWriter @RoldBoxing 8 of his title defenses were against people who weren’t from America. The fact that you don’t understand he was the lineal champion and didn’t just hold a belt. Shows me you’re a casual boxing fan who doesn’t understand wtf you’re talking about

Thirty years ago, when there was a media ecosystem that supported writers and good writing, this might have appeared in Sports Illustrated or The Sporting News or as a Daily News boxing column. In any case, happy to be able provide it a home in Mr. Beller’s Neighborhood.

@CorpasWriter @sdgsahen Louis is the greatest heavyweight power combination puncher who ever lived. Still. And if not for the war might have had 30-40 defenses instead of 25
