It was today 21 years ago, on Friday, 9th. February, 2002, that the Irish currency came to an end, replaced by the euro. The Irish pound (punt) was the currency of the Republic of Ireland up to 2002, its ISO 4217 code was IEP, and the symbol was £ (or IR£).
