Personally I think “Revan and Malak, desensitized from a long war against a ruthless enemy, saw the galaxy from the outside and desired it for themselves” is much more straightforward and compelling than “uhhh the MMO villain who was TOTALLY there all along made them do it!”

Revan actually left the galaxy forever because finding out the only reason he turned evil was because an even more powerful wizard brainwashed him was too embarrassing
