We have just learned that an Israeli airstrike killed our dear and long-time friend Dina Darwiche, and severely injured members of her family. Dina was the gentlest and kindest soul we knew. She had been dedicated to her humanitarian work with UNHCR for as long as I can remember. Her human rights work from as early as our university days will echo through the halls of @NDU_Louaize and beyond, always. I am broken. I am absolutely destroyed. I cannot breathe. Our latest study seeks to understand the scope, needs, and capacities of migrant communities connected to Jesuit networks in Beirut and Bourj Hammoud. It aims to raise awareness about the existing organizations, community groups, and mutual aid networks that support migrants and refugees. It covers a diverse range of actors: Sri Lankan and other South Asian communities actively involved with the Achrafieh Cricket Club, parishioners of St. Joseph Tabaris Church, and organizations of Filipina, East African, and other national and ethnic groups. It also includes Sudanese and South Sudanese families and individuals connected to the Bakhita Group, and the new South Sudanese Women’s Association, a refugee-led organization.
