@chin_134 @VFacure Yes, but technology like Mars helicopters and drilling probes like Insight would make resource scouting easier, especially since we're only searching areas that are already candidate sites

@CosmicArc_ @VFacure sending a probe is one click in terra invicta but in real life we dont even have a solid idea of what's just under the surface across a huge chunk of the earth. and thats with hundreds of years of geological surveys

@chin_134 @VFacure Mars did have ancient volcanic activity, and the magma deposited from them may have differentiated and sunk to produce metal ores at the bottom.

@BanhmiBrieoche Yes, it's a precaution, but this shouldn't discourage us from finding solutions if such problems arise

@CosmicArc_ I think its just good to always assume things are going to be shitty. Assume its really challenging and hard to get water and methane extraction going on a large enough scale. Assume Martian soil is really hard to work with. Assume our rockets are really inefficient etc etc

@ContractorDirty Tbf most of the advanced materials like computer components and spacecraft hardware would need to be imported from Earth at least in the early days

@CosmicArc_ Its the Dunning-Kruger effect. A lot of people aren't really interested in the subject and have never looked into it. They dont know what ISRU means or that 60 yrs of research has been done on this stuff.
