China is a geopolitical rival to "the west", their success does little to benefit me and their government does not see my part of the world so positively, so I do not feel as happy about china's advancements as I would in western countries. If they were to overtake America, then my hopes of working on the frontier of space exploration would be crushed as I don't think I could move to china, live in such a different culture, and work for a country which is often opposed to where my friends and family live. However, I also believe that China's success will motivate those countries which I am allied with/which benefit me to be less complacent and focus more on technological advancements, and as a techno-optimist, I think this is a very good thing. I used to see humanity a lot more as a collective, and I still do to some extent, and I wish we could all work together to build a better future for all. However, that is not how the world works and if you do not work to protect your own interests, people who are not so kind and willing to take advantage of you will be free to do so. So, as a British/European person, my support stays primarily with the space programs of America, Europe, Australia and Japan as Britain/Europe has good relations with them, while I welcome the motivation provided by other nations but I do not wish for them to "win" over the aforementioned nations.
