Former Spy Boss Arthur Fraser Reveals He Was Offered R50 Million Bribe and Government Positions to Drop Phala Phala Case and President Ramaphosa Allegedly Pressured Him to Resign Former spy boss Arthur Fraser claimed on the Unpopular Opinion podcast hosted by Mzilikazi wa Africa that President Cyril Ramaphosa pressured him to resign amid Phala Phala scandal allegations. He said Ramaphosa described him as a liability to the ANC and government, linking the pressure to his 2020 farm burglary complaint. He alleged Ramaphosa told him he was under pressure to resign due to political noise, including claims of pressure from the Democratic Alliance, and repeatedly labelled him a liability to the ANC and government. Fraser also said Ramaphosa referenced his alleged role in the 2017 Nasrec ANC elective conference campaign against him. Fraser further alleged he was offered more than R50 million to withdraw the Phala Phala case, 14 days after reporting the theft, and said slain mafia boss Mark Lifman was involved. He also claimed he was promised senior government positions and alleged tracking of Namibian citizens during COVID-19 border operations linked to the case. The allegations come after a Constitutional Court ruling on Parliament’s handling of the impeachment process linked to Phala Phala. Attempts to obtain comment from the Presidency and ANC were unsuccessful, while Ramaphosa’s office reiterated its commitment to the Constitution, judicial independence, and due process in addressing all allegations.
