And while we’re at it, I forged my career through damn hard work until I was literally physically unable to do so any longer. I recovered enough to manage to teach part time until my health declined again. I talk about my so-called “victimhood” now because I didn’t discuss the sexual harassment, domestic abuse, etc that contributed to shattering my health at the time and I DAMN WELL SHOULD HAVE and if I’d seen someone else talking about it, maybe I’d have felt like I actually could without losing my career. But then, we can all guess why Dan would discourage survivors speaking out

HOW DOES A PHOTON KNOW IT'S BEING OBSERVED?
The "Grounded Rationalist" would say that the photons wave function collapses into a particle upon being measured by a tool, not by a conscious observer, they would say consciousness has nothing to do with it, only the act of measurement.
I would say:
The entire concept of measurement is, in of itself, inescapably derived from consciousness, the idea of measuring anything comes from consciousness, the development of methods to measure comes from consciousness, the creation of measuring tools in order to measure comes from consciousness, therefore consciousness collapses the wave function because consciousness created the concept of measurement, the methods of measurement and the actions of measuring.

Standing on the edge of the Giza plateau and looking down into the Nile Valley, what appears to be a gentle agricultural landscape filled with vegetation and river sediment conceals something remarkable. If you were to remove all of that sediment - the accumulated deposit of millennia of Nile flooding - the valley floor would drop away to reveal a cliff over 8,000 feet deep. That is half again the depth of the Grand Canyon, sitting directly adjacent to one of the most studied archaeological sites on Earth.
The sediment filling that canyon represents an enormous volume of limestone bedrock that was removed from the landscape through geological processes - erosion, water action, the cyclical flooding and carving that shaped the entire Nile system over vast timescales. Randall's point is that this is not a minor geological footnote. The sheer scale of material removed from the bedrock immediately next to the Giza plateau demands an accounting of the forces that produced it and the timescales over which they operated.
The demarcation between the plateau and the valley is still clearly visible from above - a sharp line where the hard limestone of the plateau meets the sediment-filled depression of the ancient canyon. That boundary is one of the most significant pieces of geological context for understanding the age and formation history of the Giza complex, and it remains almost entirely absent from mainstream Egyptological discussion.
