@TheSecretAcct @2147mill Yes. Treat yourself twice a week not every day. That way it stays a treat instead of becoming the norm and you get to invese 2/3 of the money still. The ability to delay gratification is the best route to financial stability but destructive if it is taken to extremes.

Two people. Both have £5 spare a day. Person A spends it. Coffee. Snacks. Forgotten transactions. £1,800/year gone. Nothing to show for it. Person B invests it. £150/month into a Stocks & Shares ISA S&P 500 index fund Never touches it After 40 years: Person A: £0 Person B: £600k-£800k Same £5. Completely different life. Wealth isn't about big decisions. It's about small ones made consistently.

The UK nano-cap market is one of the few remaining places where you can still make money primarily from reading documents nobody else reads. Some of the best opportunities are sitting inside Aquis filings uploaded at 7:02am by companies with £12m market caps and websites that look like they were built by a regional carpet warehouse in 2009. Public markets become wildly inefficient once social prestige disappears from the process.

@mojomogoz Is that your first ever IMO Paul? As an aside, I use the StPancras Hub hotel very regularly, and recently saw a man return to reception having had his phone snatched. Everything he needed on it, of course. Staff told me it happens all the time.

“Could listen to people having phones snatched out of their hands from my London hotel room”… …and that connects to techno-societal chaos…which leads to new Christianity as safe harbour. Absolute charlatanism! Just an ego projecting its angst as inshite (imo)

@SimonBird_ @ShippersUnbound Exactly! Change the driver but can't change direction. Good luck with that. PS The one you missed was Reduce the cost of electricity for industry and public... Miliband won't let you.

Having seen this show multiple times, MPs will be asking themselves “can I get a better job?” And “will the new leader swing the way my heart desires?” Labour MPs will do themselves and the country a favour if they use their heads and ask every leadership contender these questions: 1) What is your plan? Not the vibes or the direction of travel. The actual policies they will prioritise 2) How will you communicate this plan to the voters? (MPs ask yourself if the candidate is a good communicator because without that they are lost) 3) Who is your team to enact this plan both a) in the key cabinet posts and b) in Downing Street. At a bare minimum they should have identified a chief of staff and a director of communications 4) How will your plan persuade the markets not to blow up the government on the launching pad? If you don’t get proper answers to all these questions move on. Unless they have good answers to all these questions you will be installing another dud

@Bhoddhisattva @DonaldPond6 @F15JCM In 60 years corp tax has gone from 40% to 52%, down to 19% and now 25% to little effect. Businesses really need stability. Govt should have taken a wrecking ball to planning restrictions & should be investing in infrastructure (transport, power, housing, broadband) & education.

1979-2007. 28 years, 3 prime ministers. 2016-2026. 10 years. Will be 7 PMs. At what point do we start asking why the system is failing, rather than simply changing the figurehead every 18 months?

#PCTN Schroders table a cash/paper bid for Picton Property at a measly 7% premium (& a significant discount to NAV) Picton Board recommending it & it has 11% support If I was a Picton shareholder I doubt I’d be happy with this offer🤷🏻‍♀️

@thomasforth Even though you have suggested the effect of exp. electricity on industry is exaggerated, it certainly impacts people on low incomes. And Germany has net zero impacts and a declining economy without Brexit.

@thomasforth Interesting. It's possible to be pro net zero, and anti just about everything Miliband has done. For example V2H removes the need for grid expansion, and makes sense commercially for individuals. But can't be done without a govt. standard. Meanwhile we suffer exp. electricity.

Had to check that @L__Macfarlane tweet before I pressed the retweet button. You have to lean into the stats a bit, but they are both correct. I'd choose different dates and a broader definition of Edinburgh and get a small overperformance. But overperformance it would still be.

@thomasforth I know you favour more taxation and local spending decisions. It would be interesting to see what proportion of Edinburgh's economy is financial services, the growth driver for London. (and Leeds?). Is the explicit decision to channel more money pp to Scotland really marginal?

@frankgallaghe18 @afneil The obstacles already exist, you don't need new ones. You have poor politicians and spending commitments that exceed revenue. And you lose the default option of blaming the English.

Ahhh. A Scottish currency! So you’d attempt to borrow to cover the biggest deficit of any European economy — 12% of GDP — with a new currency which has no track record in the bond markets or the currency markets. Well, good luck with that. God knows what yields you’d have to pay — if anybody was prepared to lend to you at any price. I’ve endured a mixture of the usual abuse and economic ignorance from the punk cybernats tonight (ho hum), who haven’t a shred of economics between them. But you might have outdone them all. At least you weren’t abusive. Thanks.
William Thomson@Williamgallus

Same way Westminster does. With deficit spending. And with a Scottish currency. It's not rocket science, Andrew.

@afneil A total of 65 countries have claimed independence from the UK/British Empire, and not one of them has asked to return, they all have their own currency, and in most cases they outperform the UK. This form of gaslighting has had it's day.
