@AlanJLSmith My wife always says “I wonder what has happened to them that has made them do that” for anyone who does anything odd/bad.

@xjonathandavis @AMedlicott It doesn’t but it prevents your beneficiaries paying income tax on the pension after IHT has been taken ie double taxation. With an ISA there is just IHT which you could halve if you invest in qualifying AIM shares for at least two years before your death.

Good article @amedlicott The pension IHT change coming in next year has certainly flipped the order to take your retirement income between ISA and SIPP. If you can, perhaps take up to £50k a year from your SIPP and spend, gift or ISA it. apple.news/A7IpvglI4TvGFX…

It looks like this AI fuelled bull market has another 10 years to run.

@RidyardMike Especially if you do EIS investing as you can get income relief on investments up until 31st January against income tax in the previous year.

I was a bit surprised to hear that thousands of people have already submitted their 2025/26 self-assessment tax returns — especially given that many tax vouchers and other income documents have yet to be issued.🔍

@reb40 @F15JCM I’ve done that a couple of times over three days each time. And each time had to walk up that hill out of Skipton! Very scenic.

#AMS I missed this intraday RNS yesterday (as I’m currently away on a cycling 🚴🏽‍♂️ holiday) A new potential bidder enters the arena, H. B. Fuller So that’s now 4 times a bridesmaid, will this be the time it becomes a bride 👰? I hold

@speculox Fair point. Some would say you can afford the income tax. Others would say and probably fairer that the £60k cap should apply to everyone or increase the tapering to start from say £500k or £1m annual income?

For individuals I think the ISA allowance and SIPP are sufficient tax free wrappers. If you can invest more than £68k a year (£20k ISA and £48k net SIPP contribution) you can afford income tax on gains after indexation allowance (taking inflation into account). For owner managers there should be a £1m lifetime allowance with income tax on the excess gain but with indexation allowance. Therefore husband and wife get £2m. Property and other assets - income tax after indexation allowance. Main residence no tax. Those are my thoughts. What do you think?

@TheSecretAcct If only ISA wrappers didn't eat so much of the gains, merely for compliance.

@RidyardMike I just wouldn’t invest based on what governments have said they will do. You just can’t rely on them.

UK House builders.👀📉 My watch list.👇 The government’s manifesto pledge is actually part of the problem in some investors’ eyes. The market is effectively saying: “Great ambition. But can the sector deliver it profitably?” Right now, investors think the answer is uncertain.

I never knew this. He was only 32 at the time. NASL World Cup: The surprising omissions from the 2026 FIFA World Cup squads that have been announced - Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Harry McGuire (England), Joao Pedro and Richarlison (Brazil) and Eduardo Camavinga (France), among others - brings to mind famous snubs of the NASL era. One of the biggest was the absence of Franz Beckenbauer in West Germany's 1978 squad, just 4 years after he captained his country to the title in Munich. But the New York Cosmos refused to let Beckenbauer leave for the extensive training and warm-up matches that would have conflicted with the 1978 NASL season - only agreeing to quick flights to Argentina for actual World Cup games - and "Der Kaiser" was ruled out.
