Recently, Locked On Mariners creator Ty Dane Gonzalez issued a statement regarding the Mariners declining his media credentials for the team's 50th anniversary celebration weekend. Ty faced significant criticism due to his history of blocking Mariners fans who express differing opinions. Other content creators, such as Mariners Mojo and Raise the Trident, also released statements supporting Ty Dane Gonzalez. While supporting a peer is understandable, both of these creators also have a well-known history of blocking fans over simple disagreements. Here are my personal experiences with both Mariners Mojo and Raise the Trident. Mariners Mojo: Back in 2023, while I was building RooftopSports (known then as RooftopMariner), I got into a debate with Mariners Mojo over their defense of former manager Scott Servais, as I was not a fan of his leadership. The exchange got heated and led to them blocking me. They later admitted it was not my opinion on Scott Servais that caused the block, but rather how I voiced it, claiming they were fine with fans who disliked Servais. While I can acknowledge that my tone might have been passionate, I am confident that if someone closer to them said the exact same thing in the same manner, a block would not have occurred. Later that year, they posted a video suggesting the Mariners sign Korean baseball star Jung Hoo Lee. Out of curiosity, and being Korean myself, I watched the video. I noticed they struggled with the pronunciation of his name. Since I am accustomed to non-Korean speakers mispronouncing Korean names, I left a calm comment offering the correct pronunciation along with the Korean spelling just as a helpful tip. Shortly after, they deleted my comment. As a Korean fan reaching out respectfully to an American channel, deleting that comment was not a good look. I cannot provide screenshot proof because I never expected it to be deleted, so whether you choose to believe me is entirely up to you. Raise the Trident: I previously collaborated with him a few times, and we interacted regularly on X without issue. However, he once posted expressing disappointment after former Mariners play-by-play announcer Dave Sims accidentally referred to the Cleveland Guardians as the Indians. I left a lighthearted joke suggesting it was an honest mistake and not a major issue. About a day later, he severed contact and eventually accused me of being racist. The interaction became so heated and frustrating that I pointed out how unreasonable it was to accuse me, a Korean and Asian minority, of racism over that comment. That led to him blocking me as well. If a content creator wants to grow their brand, blocking followers over differing opinions is not a good look for their public image, as it comes across as censorship. Now, if someone is sending death threats or posting completely off-topic comments, then getting blocked is entirely understandable. Ultimately, this is not a call to boycott Mariners Mojo, Raise the Trident, or Locked On Mariners. I am simply sharing my personal experiences. If you choose to follow and support them, that is entirely your prerogative. I generally prefer to focus on my own content and avoid drama, but there are moments when addressing these patterns in our community is important. All in all, I hope our fanbase can unite during the second half of the season to offer both support and constructive accountability as we all root for a World Series title. I also encourage all Mariners content creators to be open to diverse opinions. Healthy debate from different perspectives is vital to sports fandom and helps us all learn from one another.

As most of you know, I'm visiting Seattle in a few weeks, and I was hoping to have the opportunity to produce some content we haven't been able to before for you guys. Unfortunately, yesterday afternoon, I learned that my credential requests for the Mariners games on August 6 — a day game vs. the Tigers — and August 7 — the series opener with the Rays/night of the Alumni Home Run Derby — were denied by the team. I'm bummed. I believe I'm qualified for media access given the audience we've amassed at Locked On, the work I've personally put in day in and day out, and the experience I have covering this team for over half a decade. For those curious, shortly after learning of their decision, I reached out to the club seeking an explanation for the denial and have not yet heard back. Although the ability to have media access was a big goal for my trip, I'm still looking forward to making my way out to Seattle August 4-10 and I hope to meet as many of you as possible while I'm there.
