The Alberta Independence Referendum Case wrapped up today in Edmonton. Justice Feasby was left with a clear view of the chaos that would arise if he ignored the Supreme Court of Canada in the Secession Reference. To find that holding a lawful referendum on Independence could "contravene" anyone's rights would ignore a clear decision of the Supreme Court and be an a departure from the rule of law that could bring the administration of Justice in Alberta into disrepute. To find that the a legally permissible referendum violated constitutional rights would open the door to unilateral secession.
