In 2018 the Nursing and Midwifery Council published new standards that include cannulation, male catheterisation, IV’s and a whole host of other things pre registration. The other things have been standard practice for years.

@anaesthetic_spr Then what do RNs do in UK? Another UK MD stated that nurses have no medical training in UK. Do your RNs not insert nasogastric tubes, trach suctioning, Foley catheter insertion, wound care, tube feeding? That is all RNs job in U.S., some even train to insert picc lines.

Even if you are happy for your kids to be seen by an ACP (physio, podiatrist, nurse, etc.), we still have a duty to safeguard them from quacks who are happy to have a crack at any case.

@xcurlytwigx @credland_nicki Parents income was a key factor and assumed they would help out ….. but often despite a ‘good’ household income they weren’t able to help as that money was needed for their own mortgage / living costs etc. 2/2

@xcurlytwigx @credland_nicki I agree and it’s a shame that it puts people off, so am all for affordable alternatives. I can think of lots of students who struggled on a diploma bursary though, they couldn’t get a big enough student loan to survive as they weren’t viewed the same way as other students. 1/2

@xcurlytwigx @credland_nicki There are a variety of routes, NA top up, apprenticeship etc that are potentially cheaper BUT the full degree level registration is paramount. Research from around the world show that patient morbidity and mortality are lower when nurses are educated to degree level. 1/2
